About the Role

GSK is seeking an experienced Assistant Manager – EHS, External Supply & Customer Supply Chain to lead and support the implementation of Environmental, Occupational Health, and Safety (EHS) standards across its External Supply network and Customer Supply Chain operations in India.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with GSK EHS standards and national regulatory requirements across multiple external manufacturing sites and warehouse/distribution locations. The position supports EHS governance, risk management, sustainability initiatives, and continuous improvement programs while embedding a strong safety culture across third-party manufacturing organizations (CMOs) and logistics partners.


Scope of Responsibility

  • External Supply (South Hub): 9 Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) sites

  • Customer Supply Chain: 24 warehouses across 4 regions in India


Key Responsibilities

EHS Governance & Compliance

  • Lead implementation and monitoring of GSK EHS governance frameworks, including risk assessments, CAPA management, audits, mock drills, training programs, AMR reviews, and performance monitoring.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental, occupational health, and safety legislation across external supply sites and customer supply chain operations.

  • Support regulatory inspections, internal audits, and due diligence EHS audits as required.

External Supply & Warehouse EHS Oversight

  • Partner with External Supply and CSC teams to ensure EHS compliance at CMOs, CFAs, and warehouse facilities.

  • Conduct EHS risk assessments, facility inspections, and gap analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

  • Enhance EHS capability and maturity across CMOs and logistics partners.

AMR & Pharmaceuticals in the Environment (PiE) Programs

  • Support implementation and certification of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) programs at antibiotic manufacturing CMOs.

  • Coordinate with global teams to implement the Pharmaceuticals in the Environment (PiE) program, ensuring assessment and control of API environmental release risks.

Occupational Health & Industrial Hygiene

  • Implement exposure risk mitigation measures and occupational hygiene controls at external manufacturing sites.

  • Oversee annual health surveillance programs and workplace safety initiatives.

Sustainability & Environmental Compliance

  • Monitor and promote sustainability initiatives related to water conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and plastic waste EPR compliance.

  • Ensure timely calculation, documentation, and submission of plastic waste EPR reports for all applicable legal entities.

Systems, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain EHS management systems aligned with CEHS, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.

  • Drive incident reporting, investigation, emergency preparedness, and performance tracking.

  • Prepare formal EHS reports and maintain documentation in line with GSK document control policies.


Education & Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics preferred).

  • International Diploma or Postgraduate qualification in Environment, Health & Safety or Environmental Management from a recognized institution.

Preferred:

  • Advanced certification or postgraduate specialization in EHS, Industrial Safety, or Environmental Management.


Experience Required

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in EHS roles within the pharmaceutical, chemical, or process manufacturing industry.

  • Proven experience conducting EHS risk assessments, audits, and inspections at manufacturing sites and warehouses.

  • Hands-on experience with regulated environments and third-party supply chains.


Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of EHSS standards, management systems, and auditing practices.

  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements.

  • Expertise in regulatory compliance, hazardous waste management, MSDS, emergency response planning, and incident investigation.

  • Excellent training, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to work independently across geographically distributed sites and cross-functional teams.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
