Role Overview

The Chemist – Contract position supports laboratory operations and technology transfer activities within Abbott’s production and research environment. This role focuses on in-process quality control, synthesis process improvements, and analytical testing to maintain high standards of GMP and GLP compliance. The ideal candidate has hands-on chemistry experience, strong analytical skills, and familiarity with regulatory requirements in clinical and manufacturing processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist and advise on technology transfer of established synthesis processes.

  • Identify and recommend cost-saving measures and process improvements.

  • Investigate problem areas and develop strategies for enhancement.

  • Support production schedules and ensure adherence to GMP and GLP standards.

  • Conduct in-process quality control testing, including titrations, inspections, and qualifications.

  • Create and follow protocols aimed at product improvement and optimization.

  • Observe proper safety protocols during all laboratory procedures.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: BS in Chemistry or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience: 2–5 years of laboratory or clinical research experience.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Wet bench skills, including pH measurement and titrations.

    • Hands-on experience with analytical instruments: HPLC, GC, GC/MS, TLC, IR, UV/Vis, NMR, AA.

    • Understanding of analytical theories and laboratory techniques.

    • Familiarity with clinical research regulations, GCP, federal regulations, and drug development processes.

  • Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
