Job Overview

Guidehouse is hiring an experienced Manager – Medical Coding (Surgery & Multispecialty E/M) to lead and manage end-to-end medical coding operations. This leadership role requires deep expertise in surgical coding, multispecialty Evaluation & Management (E/M), compliance, and revenue cycle management. The ideal candidate will have strong people management skills, regulatory knowledge, and a proven track record of driving quality, productivity, and compliance across large coding teams.

This role is well-suited for senior medical coding professionals seeking managerial responsibility within a global healthcare consulting and services organization.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations of the medical coding division, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely completion of work assignments

  • Act as the primary coding department representative for revenue cycle initiatives, issue resolution, and process improvements

  • Collaborate with the Director to support revenue cycle goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and operational targets

  • Ensure strict compliance with coding standards, payer guidelines, and government regulations

  • Stay current with ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, billing rules, and regulatory updates; serve as a subject matter expert for coding and HIM teams

  • Assist in developing and maintaining coding, abstracting policies, and standard operating procedures

  • Oversee system-wide coding staff, manage workloads, and adjust worklists based on volume and operational needs

  • Identify training and educational needs in collaboration with the audit team

  • Deliver education, coaching, and training on coding accuracy and clinical documentation best practices

  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to team members

  • Ensure adherence to organizational information security policies and protect confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data

  • Report information security incidents to appropriate authorities in a timely manner


Required Qualifications

  • Any Graduate; preference for Life Sciences or Paramedical Graduates and Postgraduates

  • Minimum 8–10+ years of hands-on experience in medical coding, including Surgery and Multispecialty E/M

  • Mandatory certifications:

    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and/or

    • Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS-P) and/or

    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or equivalent

  • Strong working knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, medical terminology, billing, compliance standards, and denial management

  • Proven supervisory and team management experience in a medical coding or revenue cycle environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities


Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in computer applications and coding software

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
