Medical Information Manager – Medical Affairs | Abbott, Illinois

Job Summary:

Abbott is seeking a dynamic Medical Information Manager for its Infectious Disease Business Unit in Lake Forest, Illinois. This pivotal role focuses on leading the Medical Information and Medical Writing teams to deliver high-quality scientific content, optimize processes, and drive collaboration across the medical affairs function. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage Medical Information and Medical Writing teams ensuring optimal performance and continuous development.

  • Foster collaboration and effective communication within the medical affairs department.

  • Review and approve scientific content with Medical Directors for clinical accuracy.

  • Implement efficient workflows for medical information dissemination and scientific writing.

  • Ensure timely and accurate responses to healthcare professional and patient inquiries.

  • Oversee creation of high-quality scientific documents, presentations, and educational materials.

  • Propose and drive process improvements across medical information and writing tasks.

  • Develop and maintain team training strategies, tools, templates, and guidelines.

  • Act as the Medical Writing subject matter expert, guiding the team on best practices and industry norms.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (Ph.D., MD, or related) preferred.

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in medical writing, medical information, or related healthcare fields.

  • At least 3 years in a leadership or training role.

  • Expertise in American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) guidelines.

  • Strong scientific writing, editing, and communication skills.

  • Familiarity with regulatory standards for medical content.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex stakeholder engagements.

  • Experience in training and developing scientific writing teams.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years in medical information or scientific writing roles.

  • 3+ years interacting directly with medical professionals in large healthcare or pharma settings.

  • Advanced training in Life Sciences, Medicine, or related disciplines.

  • Certification such as AMWA or equivalent is a plus.
