Pharmacovigilance Vendor Governance Principal Specialist

Position Summary

The Pharmacovigilance Vendor Governance Principal Specialist is responsible for establishing, implementing, and managing the global Pharmacovigilance (PV) Vendor Governance Framework to ensure external vendors, CROs, and service providers consistently meet quality, compliance, operational, and regulatory requirements. This role acts as the strategic lead for vendor oversight, performance management, compliance monitoring, risk management, audit readiness, and stakeholder engagement across the Global Patient Safety (GPS) organization.

Key Responsibilities

PV Vendor Governance & Oversight

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve the global PV Vendor Governance Framework.

  • Establish risk-based oversight models for pharmacovigilance vendors.

  • Define governance standards, compliance requirements, and performance expectations.

  • Ensure alignment of vendor operations with Global Patient Safety (GPS) objectives.

  • Drive vendor governance strategies across global regions and affiliates.

Vendor Performance Management

  • Monitor vendor performance against established KPIs and SLAs.

  • Evaluate vendor quality, compliance, operational effectiveness, and delivery metrics.

  • Conduct performance reviews and governance meetings.

  • Identify performance gaps and implement improvement plans.

  • Ensure delivery of services within agreed timelines, quality standards, and budgets.

Vendor Relationship Management

  • Act as the primary escalation point for vendor-related issues.

  • Build strategic partnerships with external vendors and CROs.

  • Manage vendor communication and stakeholder engagement.

  • Support vendor integration into organizational operating models.

  • Facilitate productive collaboration across internal and external teams.

Vendor Lifecycle Management

  • Lead vendor onboarding activities.

  • Support vendor transitions and operational changes.

  • Manage vendor offboarding processes.

  • Oversee governance during major system, process, and organizational changes.

  • Ensure seamless integration and continuity of pharmacovigilance services.

Risk Management & Compliance Monitoring

  • Conduct risk assessments for external vendors.

  • Establish vendor criticality classifications and oversight requirements.

  • Monitor compliance risks and emerging trends.

  • Develop mitigation strategies for identified risks.

  • Support proactive risk-based decision-making.

Quality & Compliance Assessments

  • Conduct routine vendor compliance assessments.

  • Review quality metrics and performance indicators.

  • Perform trend analysis and compliance monitoring.

  • Ensure adherence to global pharmacovigilance regulations and GxP requirements.

  • Support continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Audit & Inspection Readiness

  • Ensure inspection and audit readiness across vendor operations.

  • Participate in pharmacovigilance audits and regulatory inspections.

  • Support vendor audit preparation and response activities.

  • Review audit observations and compliance findings.

  • Monitor CAPA implementation and effectiveness.

CAPA & Issue Management

  • Manage vendor-related deviations and compliance issues.

  • Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities.

  • Develop and monitor Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).

  • Ensure timely closure of compliance findings.

  • Drive sustainable process improvements.

Governance Meetings & Reporting

  • Facilitate governance committees and vendor review meetings.

  • Prepare reports and decision-making materials for leadership.

  • Present vendor performance, compliance status, and risk assessments.

  • Support leadership reviews and strategic discussions.

Process Improvement & Innovation

  • Identify opportunities to improve vendor governance processes.

  • Leverage industry best practices and benchmarking insights.

  • Drive harmonization of global vendor management processes.

  • Promote operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Support digital transformation and automation efforts where applicable.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Educational Qualification

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in:

    • Life Sciences

    • Pharmacy

    • Pharmacology

    • Biotechnology

    • Biomedical Sciences

    • Business Administration

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in:

    • Life Sciences

    • Pharmacy

    • Business Administration (MBA)

    • Healthcare Management

Experience Required

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in:

    • Pharmacovigilance Operations

    • Drug Safety

    • Vendor Governance

    • Vendor Management

    • Quality & Compliance

  • Experience working with:
