Phlebotomist (On-Call) – Clinical Research

Location: Madison, Wisconsin (On-Site)
Employment Type: On-Call / Casual

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Phlebotomist (On-Call) to join our Early Phase Clinical Research Unit in Madison, Wisconsin. This position offers the opportunity to work directly with healthy volunteer participants while supporting Phase I clinical trials for leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies.

As part of one of the world's largest Clinical Research Organizations (CROs), you will contribute to studies evaluating the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of investigational drugs. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy patient interaction, clinical procedures, and working in a fast-paced research environment.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Procedures

  • Perform venipuncture and blood collection procedures accurately and efficiently.

  • Record and monitor vital signs including:

    • Blood Pressure

    • Pulse Rate

    • Respiratory Rate

    • Temperature

    • Body Weight

  • Prepare and accurately record ECGs and Holter monitor readings.

Sample Collection & Processing

  • Collect, process, label, and distribute biological samples according to study protocols.

  • Ensure proper handling and storage of specimens while maintaining protocol compliance.

Participant Care & Study Support

  • Monitor participant meals to ensure dietary compliance.

  • Assist with participant screening procedures as required.

  • Provide high-quality participant care while maintaining study integrity.

Operational Support

  • Prepare clinical rooms and medical equipment for study activities.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment.

  • Support research staff with study-related activities and documentation.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Previous phlebotomy experience is required.

  • 0–1 year of related healthcare or clinical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EMT Certification

  • Phlebotomy Certification

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

  • Frequent use of hands, fingers, and wrists for clinical and laboratory procedures.

  • Occasional bending, twisting, stooping, crouching, and reaching.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15–20 lbs.

  • Ability to operate standard computer equipment and clinical devices.

  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.

  • Flexibility to work varied schedules as needed.
