Position Summary
Fortrea is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our Phase I Clinical Pharmacology team in Madison, Wisconsin. The PA will report to the onsite Medical Director and play a critical role in participant care, clinical trial operations, regulatory communications, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. This position may also serve as a sub-investigator in select clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct physical examinations, medical histories, and participant assessments as delegated by the Medical Director.

  • Act as a clinical and technical advisor for study teams and other departments within Clinical Pharmacology.

  • Interact with regulatory bodies and ensure compliance with FDA, GCP, and ICH standards.

  • Oversee and maintain quality systems to ensure adherence to good clinical practices.

  • Perform clinical feasibility reviews of new study proposals.

  • Support operations and client teams during Sponsor visits and interactions.

  • Provide education, training, and mentorship to staff and clinical teams.

  • Ensure a safe and compliant clinical environment, recommending improvements as necessary.

  • Participate in investigator meetings and other clinical project activities as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.

  • Nationally certified as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) through NCCPA and licensed to practice in Wisconsin.

  • 3–5 years of hands-on clinical care experience; research experience is a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of clinical trial operations and regulatory requirements.

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.

Work Environment

  • Clinical and laboratory settings with exposure to electrical equipment and biological fluids.

  • Occasional domestic travel to other study sites may be required.

  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, gowns, and eyewear.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain upright or stationary for 6–8 hours per day.

  • Repetitive hand movements to operate laboratory or clinical equipment.

  • Occasional bending, crouching, and twisting.

  • Ability to lift or carry items up to 15–20 lbs.

  • Proficiency in computer software and electronic data management systems.
