Principal Data Scientist – AI Platform Architect

Role Summary:
We are hiring a Principal AI Platform Architect, the most senior individual-contributor authority in our AI/ML space. You will lead the design and scaling of end-to-end machine learning and generative AI platforms, enabling hundreds of practitioners to develop, deploy, and monitor models—ranging from classical ML to LLMs—securely and efficiently. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role that blends platform strategy with deep technical execution and AI governance.
Key Responsibilities:
Define and evangelize the multi-year vision and architecture for Amgen’s AI platform.
Design foundational platform components including model registries, feature stores, vector databases, and inference gateways.
Implement MLOps pipelines with CI/CD, automated testing, canary releases, and rollback mechanisms.
Embed security, data privacy, lineage tracking, and responsible AI frameworks using policy-as-code.
Serve as the technical authority for product teams—troubleshoot, optimize, and ensure platform compliance.
Collaborate with Procurement/Finance to build TCO models, negotiate cloud/AI service contracts, and manage cost optimization.
Promote platform adoption via SDKs, self-service tools, documentation, and internal enablement workshops.
Establish observability practices for AI systems—tracking metrics, drift, performance, and compliance.
Integrate emerging technologies (e.g., confidential compute, AI accelerators, serverless GPUs) and align with evolving regulations like the EU AI Act.
Must-Have Skills:
5–7 years in AI/ML, enterprise software, or data platforms with 3+ years leading senior engineers or ICs.
Proven experience integrating AI SaaS/PaaS and building custom ML services at enterprise scale.
Deep expertise in GenAI tooling—RAG pipelines, prompt-engineering, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, vector DBs.
Strong coding skills in Python and Java; container orchestration with Docker/Kubernetes.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps/MLOps tools (GitHub Actions, SageMaker Pipelines).
Strategic thinking with the ability to model TCO vs. NPV and communicate business trade-offs effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
Published thought leadership or conference talks on GenAI adoption.
Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or MBA with AI focus.
Familiarity with Agile/SAFe methodologies.
GenAI/ML platform certifications (e.g., AWS AI, Azure AI Engineer, Google Cloud ML) are a plus.
Educational Requirements:
Master’s Degree: 10–14+ years in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
Bachelor’s Degree: 12–17+ years in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
Soft Skills:

Strong verbal, written, and presentation capabilities
