JOB OVERVIEW

The Principal Medical Affairs Specialist serves as a senior medical expert responsible for developing and executing evidence-based medical affairs strategies, supporting scientific engagement, generating clinical insights, and driving safe and effective adoption of Medtronic technologies.

This role partners with cross-functional teams including R&D, Marketing, Business Development, Portfolio Management, Clinical Affairs, and Commercial teams while building strong relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), healthcare institutions, payers, and regulatory stakeholders.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Medical Strategy & Scientific Leadership

  • Develop and implement integrated Medical Affairs strategies.

  • Provide scientific and medical leadership across product portfolios.

  • Support evidence generation and scientific communication initiatives.

  • Drive medical strategy aligned with business objectives.

Clinical & Scientific Expertise

  • Maintain deep expertise in:

    • Disease areas

    • Clinical practice

    • Medtronic products and technologies

    • Scientific literature

  • Serve as internal medical subject matter expert.

  • Interpret and communicate clinical evidence effectively.

Medical Education & Training

  • Design and deliver scientific education programs.

  • Conduct:

    • Workshops

    • Seminars

    • Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs

    • Scientific training sessions

  • Support healthcare professionals with evidence-based information.

Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with:

    • KOLs

    • Professional societies

    • Academic institutions

    • Healthcare providers

  • Facilitate scientific exchange and collaboration.

Evidence Generation & Value Communication

  • Support development of clinical evidence and value propositions.

  • Ensure objective communication of product benefits to:

    • Physicians

    • Hospitals

    • Patients

    • Government agencies

    • Payers

    • Health Technology Assessment organizations

Competitive Intelligence

  • Monitor competitor products and market developments.

  • Analyze emerging scientific and clinical evidence.

  • Provide strategic insights to leadership teams.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Provide medical expertise to:

  • General Management

  • Marketing

  • Research & Development

  • Portfolio Management

  • Business Development

  • Licensing Teams

  • Clinical Teams

Stakeholder Communication

  • Communicate scientific and clinical information to:

    • Investigators

    • Institutions

    • Healthcare systems

    • Government bodies

    • Medical associations

  • Respond to unsolicited medical inquiries.

Product Adoption Support

  • Drive initiatives that improve safe and effective use of Medtronic technologies.

  • Support launch and lifecycle management activities.

  • Assist field teams with scientific and clinical perspectives.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor junior medical affairs professionals.

  • Lead strategic projects and initiatives.

  • Provide coaching and scientific guidance across teams.


EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required

One of the following:

  • MBBS

  • MD

  • DM

  • BDS

  • MDS

Preferred

  • MD / DM with Medical Affairs experience

  • Clinical specialty expertise relevant to Medtronic therapeutic areas


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum

  • 7+ years relevant experience with Bachelor's qualification

OR

  • 5+ years relevant experience with Advanced Degree
