About the Role

As a Principal Statistician in Chennai, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that clinical and preclinical research evidence is scientifically rigorous, supporting critical healthcare decisions. Your expertise will directly influence the safety, efficacy, and market success of pharmaceutical and biological products, impacting patients globally.

This role requires a combination of statistical expertise, clinical insight, and independent judgment to manage and contribute to complex research projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and execute biostatistical analyses for research and development projects.

  • Lead or co-lead moderately complex projects, managing time, resources, and deliverables effectively.

  • Apply advanced statistical methodologies to solve research challenges and support clinical study design.

  • Collaborate with scientists and cross-functional teams in the design, analysis, and interpretation of clinical experiments.

  • Ensure all statistical activities comply with regulatory requirements and Pfizer standards.

  • Review your own work, provide guidance to peers, and mentor junior statisticians.

  • Contribute to research on statistical methodology relevant to Pfizer’s business needs.

  • Prepare technical reports, internal/external presentations, and scientific manuscripts.


Required Qualifications

  • Education & Experience:

    • BA/BS with 4+ years of relevant experience, or

    • MBA/MS with 2+ years, or

    • PhD/JD with relevant experience, or

    • Associate degree with 8+ years, or

    • High school diploma (or equivalent) with 10+ years in a relevant statistical or scientific role.

  • Strong knowledge of statistical concepts including general linear models, mixed models, non-linear models, experimental design, variance components, and quality control.

  • Proven ability to develop computational tools for data visualization and work with modern multidimensional genomic datasets.

  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to write technical reports and collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.

  • Familiarity with ICH guidelines, pharmacopoeia monographs, and working in a regulated scientific environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with pharmaceutical industry experience.

  • Experience providing statistical support for clinical studies in oncology.

  • Knowledge of advanced statistical methodologies and their application to clinical research.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to develop solutions in non-standard situations.
