Position Overview:
The Safety & PV AI and Machine Learning Specialist will be a key contributor to Syneos Health’s Safety & Pharmacovigilance AI initiatives. This role focuses on exploring, developing, and implementing AI, ML, and automation solutions to optimize pharmacovigilance workflows, improve efficiency, and ensure compliance with global regulatory standards.
The ideal candidate combines pharmacovigilance or life sciences knowledge with hands-on AI/ML development experience, including building proof-of-concept AI agents, prompt engineering, and responsible AI deployment in a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities:
AI Solution Design & Development
Design, build, and test AI/ML prototypes for PV workflows (case intake, triage, data extraction, signal detection, narrative generation).
Develop and optimize LLM prompt strategies for PV automation and decision support.
Partner with Safety Tech, IT, and PV Operations to convert operational challenges into AI opportunities.
Technical Implementation & Integration
Evaluate, implement, and integrate AI technologies, NLP tools, and APIs into existing PV systems.
Collaborate with developers and data engineers to ensure scalable, compliant AI solutions.
Data & Model Governance
Support model evaluation, validation, and monitoring to ensure regulatory compliance, reliability, and accuracy.
Contribute to AI governance frameworks: documentation, explainability, and risk management (GxP, GDPR, 21 CFR Part 11).
Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
Work cross-functionally with Safety Operations, Data Science, IT, and Business Analysts to align AI initiatives with business needs.
Provide subject matter expertise on AI trends, tools, and best practices relevant to pharmacovigilance and life sciences.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience:
3–5+ years in pharmacovigilance, drug safety, life sciences operations, or AI/ML solution development in a regulated environment.
Proven experience with:
AI/ML model development and deployment (Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, Hugging Face, OpenAI API).
NLP and LLM applications, including prompt engineering.
Building proof-of-concept AI applications (GPT4.0+).
Understanding of GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, and pharmaceutical data privacy requirements.
Familiarity with global AI-specific regulations and guidelines.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with PV safety databases, case processing systems, or workflows.
Familiarity with automation and RPA tools.
Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
Ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and responsible AI use.
Work Environment:
Remote role (preference for Serbia or Bulgaria).
