Position Overview:

Lilly’s Discovery Chemistry Research and Technologies (DCRT) organization is looking for a highly skilled Virtual Screening (VS) expert to lead the VS@Lilly platform. This role involves collaborating with computational, structural biology, molecular pharmacology, and medicinal chemistry teams to apply cutting-edge virtual screening techniques. The successful candidate will play a critical role in identifying novel small-molecule starting points to drive Lilly’s drug discovery efforts, especially targeting difficult-to-drug diseases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Lead the VS@Lilly matrix team to identify novel chemical starting points, driving multigenerational drug discovery efforts.
  • Collaboration: Work with structural biologists and expert modelers to utilize structural and biophysical data for VS campaigns.
  • Innovation: Champion and implement advanced methods like ensemble or AI-based virtual screening to improve hit rates.
  • Workflow Development: Develop and integrate cheminformatics tools to ensure high-quality hits for purchase and maximize chemical and binding pocket space coverage.
  • Optimization: Collaborate with medicinal chemists to triage VS hits and streamline workflows in collaboration with Tech@Lilly.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, Computational Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience applying VS technologies to drive drug discovery programs towards candidate identification.
  • Proven track record of championing and successfully applying new technologies in drug discovery.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and lead cross-functional teams.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Expertise with molecular design software tools.
  • Familiarity with medicinal chemistry concepts, including ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, and Excretion).
  • Authorship of peer-reviewed publications or inventorship on patents.
  • Expertise in GPCR (G-protein-coupled receptors) drug discovery.
  • Passion for coaching and developing talent.

Compensation:

  • Anticipated salary range: $171,000 - $275,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
