Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Scientist – Upstream Process Development (Mammalian) to support biosimilar development programs. The role focuses on mammalian cell culture process development, optimization, and scale-up using advanced bioreactor systems. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in fed-batch and perfusion processes, hands-on bioreactor experience, and the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams in a fast-paced R&D environment.

This position is based in Pune, India, and offers an opportunity to contribute to high-impact biosimilar development projects within a permanent role.


Key Responsibilities – Upstream Process Development (Mammalian)

  • Design, plan, and execute media and feed screening studies using ambr250 systems and laboratory-scale bioreactors.

  • Develop and optimize mammalian cell culture processes, including fed-batch and perfusion strategies.

  • Perform bioreactor culture development at laboratory and pilot scales (2L to 50L) using glass and single-use technologies.

  • Operate and manage bench-top bioreactors, single-use systems, and high-throughput platforms such as ambr250, WAVE bioreactors, and ATF systems.

  • Apply strong aseptic techniques for mammalian cell culture across various lab-scale formats.

  • Conduct cell growth and process monitoring using instruments such as Cedex, Vi-Cell, and Osmometer.

  • Plan, assign, and supervise daily experimental activities to ensure accurate and timely execution.

  • Perform daily review and analysis of experimental data, ensuring scientific rigor and documentation compliance.

  • Review and contribute to technical and functional documents such as Process Development Reports (PDR) and Technical Transfer Documents (TTD).

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including research, development, manufacturing, and quality functions.

  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives.

  • Act as a committed team player with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.


Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: M.Tech or M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related life sciences discipline.

  • Experience: Minimum 8 to 11 years of hands-on experience in mammalian upstream process development, preferably within biosimilars or biologics development.

  • Proven expertise in fed-batch and perfusion cell culture processes.

  • Strong working knowledge of single-use and stainless-steel bioreactor systems.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, cross-functional pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical R&D environment.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills.
