Position Summary
Phoenix Children’s is seeking a Senior Infection Preventionist to collaborate with leadership, medical, and nursing staff to develop strategies that reduce infection risk and achieve top-tier performance for key infection prevention measures. The role involves leading infection prevention teams, applying advanced statistical tools, conducting surveillance, and applying evidence-based practices to improve infection control activities across the organization. The Senior Infection Preventionist also serves as a mentor, offering professional guidance and development.

Position Duties

  • Surveillance Activities

    • Applies standardized case finding methods to HAI (healthcare-associated infections).
    • Utilizes NHSN to report and validate HAIs.
    • Conducts electronic surveillance and data mining for reporting.
    • Provides graphic data displays and integrates data into strategic programs.
    • Leads collaborative efforts for process improvements from surveillance outcomes.
  • Infection Prevention and Control Activities

    • Serves as an expert in infection control projects and initiatives.
    • Uses professional judgment to prioritize tasks and streamline processes.
    • Monitors and supports isolation activities and applies advanced epidemiological methods.
    • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with staff and clinicians.
    • Collaborates with state and local public health agencies.
  • Education

    • Educates staff and stakeholders using various presentation techniques.
    • Creates educational materials and training for RN staff, clinicians, and patients.
    • Develops orientation and mandatory infection prevention training for employees.
    • Leads education initiatives related to health and wellness, infection, and exposure prevention.

Qualifications

  • Education & Certification

    • Must have a CIC (Certification in Infection Control).
    • Preference for 5 years of infection prevention experience in acute care settings.
  • Experience

    • Expertise in infection prevention core competencies: prevention, surveillance, and control.
    • Strong knowledge of epidemiology, study design, and process improvement.
    • Ability to interpret research data and apply findings to practice.
    • Proven leadership and mentoring abilities in infection prevention.
  • Skills & Competencies

    • Ability to conduct comprehensive data analysis using advanced statistical tools.
    • Skilled at using electronic infection control data mining systems.
    • Strong communication skills for presenting to diverse audiences and stakeholders.
    • Proficient in creating educational materials and implementing effective training programs.
