Job Overview
The Senior Statistical Programmer provides expert technical leadership and process innovation in statistical programming. This role is responsible for developing integrated programming solutions, designing and validating statistical analysis systems, and supporting internal and external client projects across the full spectrum of statistical programming needs. The position also involves mentoring junior staff and contributing to process improvement within the department.
Essential Functions
🔹 Programming & Technical Delivery
Plan, perform, and coordinate programming, testing, and documentation of statistical programs to generate tables, listings, and figures (TLFs) for clinical studies.
Program and validate analysis databases (ADaM datasets) and perform data transfers for both internal and external clients.
Develop and maintain database quality control checks to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Integrate databases from multiple studies or data sources, ensuring consistency and standardization.
🔹 Documentation & Process Management
Develop and maintain programming plans, specifications, and documentation for complex studies.
Lead the development and validation of new process technologies, macros, and applications to enhance efficiency and quality.
Ensure all deliverables meet Good Programming Practice (GPP) standards and project timelines.
🔹 Leadership & Project Oversight
Serve as the Statistical Programming Team Lead for complex studies or clusters of studies.
Understand project Scope of Work (SoW), budget assumptions, and timelines; manage out-of-scope activities, resource allocation, and revenue forecasts.
Provide technical expertise and consultation to internal and external clients, addressing complex project requirements independently.
Offer training, mentoring, and guidance to junior programmers to build departmental capability.
Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or related field with 3+ years relevant experience, OR
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or related field with 4+ years relevant experience, OR
Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in lieu of formal degree.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Base SAS, SAS/Graph, and SAS Macro Language.
Strong understanding of clinical trial data structures and statistical analysis principles.
Experience with data integration, standardization (CDISC SDTM/ADaM), and validation procedures.
Professional Skills:
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and compliance.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, clients, and management.
