Job Overview

Syneos Health is seeking a Senior Medical Director – Dermatology to lead medical oversight for dermatology clinical trials and drug development programs.

The role acts as a Medical Monitor, ensuring patient safety, scientific integrity, and regulatory compliance throughout the clinical trial lifecycle. The Senior Medical Director will collaborate with sponsors, clinical teams, regulatory experts, and investigators to support the successful development of dermatology therapies.


Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Trial Medical Oversight

  • Serve as Medical Monitor for assigned clinical studies.

  • Review clinical trial data to identify safety trends and potential risks.

  • Provide guidance to ensure patient safety and data integrity throughout the study.


2. Clinical Protocol Development

  • Support protocol design and clinical study development.

  • Provide medical input into protocol amendments and study methodologies.

  • Contribute to clinical development strategies and program planning.


3. Drug Safety & Pharmacovigilance

  • Collaborate with pharmacovigilance teams to monitor drug safety signals.

  • Provide medical oversight for adverse event evaluation and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Ensure adherence to global clinical safety standards.


4. Study Start-Up & Feasibility Support

  • Participate in clinical trial feasibility and site evaluation.

  • Review informed consent forms and patient-facing materials.

  • Support patient recruitment and subject identification strategies.


5. Data Review & Scientific Leadership

  • Oversee clinical data review by Medical Scientists and other Medical Directors.

  • Identify trends, risks, and mitigation strategies related to clinical trial outcomes.

  • Present medical insights to customers and project teams.


6. Business Development & Client Engagement

  • Lead medical input for Request for Proposals (RFPs) and Bid Defense Meetings (BDMs).

  • Support responses to Requests for Information (RFIs).

  • Represent the company at scientific conferences and industry meetings.


7. Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor project teams and junior medical staff.

  • Provide therapeutic area training for clinical teams and investigators.

  • Manage or supervise Medical Directors and Medical Scientist staff when required.


Required Skills

Medical & Scientific Expertise

  • Extensive experience in dermatology clinical research and drug development

  • Experience serving as Medical Monitor in clinical trials

  • Strong knowledge of clinical study design and safety monitoring

Regulatory Knowledge

  • Expertise in global drug development regulations including:

    • U.S. Food and Drug Administration

    • European Medicines Agency

    • International Council for Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice (GCP)

Leadership & Communication

  • Strong stakeholder communication and client management skills

  • Ability to lead global cross-functional clinical teams

  • Experience mentoring medical and clinical development staff


Preferred Qualifications

  • Board certification in Dermatology

  • Experience working with CROs or pharmaceutical sponsors

  • Experience contributing to regulatory submissions and clinical development programs
