Role Overview

The Assistant Dialysis Technician will support the safe and efficient delivery of hemodialysis treatments to patients with kidney failure. The role involves preparing and operating dialysis machines, assisting patients during procedures, maintaining treatment records, and ensuring compliance with infection control and quality protocols.

This position is critical to delivering reliable and patient-centered renal care within hospital or dialysis center environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines according to prescribed treatment parameters and clinical guidelines.

  • Attach dialyzers and blood tubing to dialysis machines and prime extracorporeal circuits with 0.9% normal saline before treatment.

  • Label dialyzers and bloodlines with patient name and identification prior to first use (excluding single-use items).

  • Prepare dialysis solutions and mix bicarbonate concentrates as per approved formulas and physician instructions.

  • Explain the dialysis procedure and machine operation to patients to reduce anxiety and improve treatment compliance.

  • Connect patients to appropriate vascular access sites (AV fistula, graft, or catheter) to initiate dialysis sessions.

  • Monitor dialysis equipment for alarms, malfunctions, and performance deviations during treatment.

  • Maintain accurate documentation including logbooks, treatment records, forms, and clinical registers.

  • Follow infection control protocols, biomedical waste management standards, and patient safety guidelines.

  • Assist nursing and nephrology teams in ensuring smooth dialysis operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certification in Dialysis Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), or related paramedical discipline.

  • 0–3 years of experience in a dialysis center, hospital nephrology unit, or renal care facility.

  • Basic understanding of hemodialysis procedures and patient monitoring techniques.

  • Knowledge of infection control practices and safety protocols.

  • Strong communication and patient interaction skills.

  • Ability to maintain precise clinical documentation.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with Fresenius or equivalent dialysis systems.

  • Ability to identify and respond to equipment malfunctions promptly.

  • Strong attention to detail and teamwork skills.
