Job Overview
Johnson & Johnson is seeking an experienced Associate Director – Business Operations to lead strategic and operational oversight within Integrated Data Analytics and Reporting (IDAR). This role focuses on driving operational excellence, vendor governance, financial management, and cross-functional alignment to ensure high-quality, compliant, and cost-effective clinical trial operations.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Business Operations & Leadership

  • Lead business operations strategy and execution within IDAR

  • Drive operational excellence across clinical data, analytics, and reporting functions

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align business goals with operational delivery

  • Lead strategic initiatives to improve performance, efficiency, and scalability

Vendor & Supplier Oversight

  • Manage oversight frameworks for CROs, BPOs, and external providers

  • Ensure compliance with procurement, partnerships, and governance policies

  • Monitor supplier performance, cost efficiency, and service quality

  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies for vendor operations

  • Lead oversight meetings, documentation, and audit readiness activities

Financial & Resource Management

  • Monitor supplier spend and cost models for outsourced studies

  • Support invoice reconciliation and financial tracking processes

  • Improve demand forecasting accuracy and resource planning

  • Collaborate with Procurement and Partnerships on sourcing strategies

Operational Excellence & Process Improvement

  • Establish and implement best practices for operational processes across IDAR

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and standardization efforts

  • Define and track key performance metrics and operational KPIs

  • Lead cross-functional and global initiatives to enhance delivery quality

Risk & Compliance Management

  • Ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance across all operations

  • Develop and implement risk mitigation and contingency plans

  • Collaborate with compliance teams to address quality and regulatory gaps

Stakeholder & Relationship Management

  • Partner with internal stakeholders including IDAR leadership, Procurement, Finance, and HR

  • Act as a key interface between business functions and external providers

  • Influence decision-making through data-driven insights and strategic recommendations

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities

  • Advanced knowledge of clinical operations and drug development processes

  • Expertise in vendor management, outsourcing strategies, and governance models

  • Strong financial acumen and resource management skills

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Ability to lead large-scale, cross-functional projects

  • Strategic thinking with strong problem-solving capabilities

  • High attention to detail with a focus on compliance and quality

Technical & Functional Expertise

  • Understanding of clinical data management, central monitoring, and clinical programming

  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (ICH guidelines, GCP standards)

  • Experience in project management methodologies and operational frameworks

  • Knowledge of clinical trial systems and R&D operational processes

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Management, or related field

  • Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum: 8–10 years of experience in business operations, clinical operations, or project/program management within pharma/biotech

  • Freshers: Not eligible

  • Required: Experience in stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership

  • Mandatory: People management experience

  • Preferred: 5+ years in clinical operations and experience managing CRO/BPO/vendor partnerships

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong influencing and decision-making skills

  • Willingness to travel internationally (up to 5%)
