Job Overview
Amgen is hiring an Associate Director – Computational Biology, Precision Medicine to build and lead the Computational Biology and Translational Analytics team at its Hyderabad innovation center.
This leadership role will focus on scaling computational biology capabilities, enabling translational analytics across global clinical programs, and integrating advanced AI-driven analytical platforms to accelerate drug development.
The position will work closely with global teams across Oncology, Inflammation, Rare Diseases, Cardiovascular & Metabolic, and Obesity research programs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team & Capability Development
Establish and scale the Computational Biology team in Hyderabad.
Develop hiring strategy, onboarding processes, and team culture.
Build multidisciplinary teams across:
Data engineering
Bioinformatics and AI engineering
Computational biology data science
Biomarker analysis
Maintain strong alignment with global precision medicine teams.
2. Scientific & Translational Leadership
Lead translational and reverse-translational analytics across clinical trials.
Guide biomarker scientists on:
Study design and statistical modeling
Biomarker interpretation
Patient stratification strategies
Mechanism-of-action insights
Ensure analytics align with clinical development goals and regulatory expectations.
3. Data Platform & AI Strategy
Deliver analysis-ready multi-omics and biomarker datasets across clinical programs.
Build scalable analytics platforms for:
Genomics and transcriptomics
Proteomics and metabolomics
Spatial and imaging-derived biomarker data
Lead adoption of machine learning, generative AI, and agent-based analytical workflows.
4. Data Engineering & Infrastructure Oversight
Partner with data engineering teams to implement:
Scalable ETL pipelines
Data quality frameworks
FAIR data and metadata standards
Ensure compliance with regulated clinical research environments (GxP standards).
5. Cross-Functional Leadership
Collaborate with clinicians, biomarker scientists, translational researchers, and data engineers.
Communicate analytical insights to executive leadership and governance boards.
Represent Hyderabad computational biology capabilities in global strategy discussions.
Required Skills
Technical Expertise
Deep experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, and multi-omics analytics
Strong understanding of clinical biomarker data and translational research workflows
Knowledge of machine learning and AI applications in biomedical research
Experience with cloud computing or HPC environments
Leadership Skills
Proven experience building and managing multidisciplinary scientific teams
Experience leading large-scale global scientific initiatives
Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building global capability centers or R&D teams in India
Expertise in single-cell genomics, spatial omics, and multi-omics data integration
