Job Overview
The Associate Director, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), provides strategic leadership and scientific expertise across multidisciplinary research projects within the life sciences and healthcare sector. This role is responsible for managing project execution from planning to communication, delivering health economic evidence, and supporting market access strategies for pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients.

The position involves leading research initiatives such as systematic literature reviews, indirect treatment comparisons, economic modeling, health technology assessment (HTA) submissions, and value communication strategies. The Associate Director also contributes to business development, client engagement, operational excellence, and team leadership.

This role is ideal for experienced healthcare consultants, health economists, epidemiologists, or pharmaceutical professionals seeking leadership opportunities in HEOR consulting and evidence-based healthcare decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary HEOR projects, including project scope, strategy, timelines, and deliverables.

  • Oversee targeted and systematic literature reviews, cost-effectiveness analyses, and budget impact models.

  • Develop and support HTA submissions and value communication materials.

  • Manage client relationships and lead client meetings independently.

  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, contractors, and project teams.

  • Ensure quality control standards and regulatory compliance across project deliverables.

  • Support business development activities, including proposal development and capability presentations.

  • Identify project risks, resolve conflicts, and implement contingency plans.

  • Drive operational efficiency, process improvement initiatives, and best practices development.

  • Conduct project evaluations including budget management and performance reviews.

  • Participate in recruitment, employee development, and organizational leadership initiatives.

People Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational guidance to managers and project teams.

  • Support staff supervision, performance management, and professional development.

  • Ensure adherence to scientific standards, methodologies, and departmental objectives.

  • Foster an inclusive and collaborative work environment aligned with organizational values.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a medical or life sciences discipline such as Biology, Epidemiology, Pharmacology, Health Economics, Medical Science, or related field.

  • Master’s degree or PhD (MSc or PhD) preferred.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience managing projects and staff.

  • Minimum 2+ years of direct experience in health research, health economics, outcomes research, or related field.

  • Consulting experience in HEOR or healthcare strategy preferred (typically 3+ years).

  • Experience in economic modeling, evidence synthesis, or market access projects is advantageous.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of health economics, outcomes research methodologies, and evidence generation.

  • Advanced analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.

  • Familiarity with statistical software, programming tools, or reference management systems is an asset.

Work Environment and Expectations

  • Standard work schedule of approximately 37.5 hours per week.

  • Occasional travel may be required for client or stakeholder meetings.

  • Office-based or remote work environment with collaborative team engagement.

Compensation and Benefits
