Position Title: Leader, T Cell Biology & Immunology

Position Overview:

Lilly is seeking a leader for a team of scientists dedicated to advancing next-generation therapies for autoimmune diseases, with a focus on T cell biology. The successful candidate will lead a team in the discovery and development of candidate molecules across different modalities, provide scientific direction, and guide the team through in vivo pharmacology research. This leader will also shape the T cell immunology portfolio strategy, mentor emerging scientific and project leaders, and collaborate with external partners to enhance Lilly’s immunology portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and mentor a team of scientists focusing on T cell biology and in vivo pharmacology, fostering a culture of innovation, scientific excellence, and high performance.
  • Ensure strong data packages for informed decisions on candidate molecules and alignment with the Immunology strategy.
  • Guide the in vivo pharmacology team, ensuring activities and resources are aligned with immunology priorities.
  • Contribute to research study reports, manuscripts for publication, and presentations at scientific conferences.
  • Collaborate with Immunology leaders to refine strategies for T cell therapies.
  • Support external innovation and business development strategies related to T cell therapies.
  • Oversee external research collaborations aligned with the T cell immunology portfolio.
  • Track and manage personal development plans for team members.
  • Actively engage in diligence activities for business development initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in immunology, molecular biology, or a related field with relevant post-doctoral training.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
  • Demonstrated success in discovering and developing candidate molecules for autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, inflammatory bowel diseases, and fibrosis.
  • Expertise in developing in vivo pharmacology models pertinent to immunology.
  • Experience generating preclinical data packages for IND submissions.
  • Strong leadership experience, including overseeing large, high-performing scientific teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Preferences:

  • Experience in the discovery and development of novel modalities, such as antibody-conjugates and bispecific antibodies.
  • Experience with humanized mouse models for immunology research.
  • Experience with regulatory submissions beyond IND.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with flexibility and intellectual agility.

Travel:

  • Estimated travel requirement: 20%
