Job Overview

The Junior Research Associate – Clinical Genomics will be responsible for processing, handling, and analyzing prenatal and genetic samples within a clinical genomics laboratory. The role involves DNA extraction, quantification, QF-PCR setup, fragment analysis, sample management, and coordination with cytogenetics teams to support accurate and timely genetic testing services.

This position is ideal for candidates with a strong academic background in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or Life Sciences who are interested in building a career in Clinical Genomics and Molecular Diagnostics.


Key Responsibilities

Sample Processing & Handling

  • Handle prenatal samples including:

    • Amniotic Fluid (AF)

    • Chorionic Villi Samples (CVS)

    • Products of Conception (POC)

  • Ensure proper receipt, labeling, storage, and tracking of samples.

  • Maintain sample integrity throughout the testing process.

DNA Extraction & Quantification

  • Perform DNA extraction from:

    • Prenatal Samples

    • Blood Samples

    • Buccal Swab Samples

  • Use validated extraction kits and laboratory protocols.

  • Quantify extracted DNA using approved methodologies.

  • Verify DNA quality and concentration before downstream analysis.

Molecular Testing

  • Set up QF-PCR (Quantitative Fluorescent Polymerase Chain Reaction) assays.

  • Perform fragment analysis for genetic testing applications.

  • Prepare samples and reagents according to standard operating procedures.

  • Support molecular diagnostic workflows and testing activities.

Laboratory Operations

  • Prepare and run Agarose Gel Electrophoresis.

  • Maintain laboratory records and documentation.

  • Follow laboratory quality standards and protocols.

  • Assist in troubleshooting routine laboratory issues.

Sample Storage & Inventory Management

  • Manage sample storage and retrieval activities.

  • Maintain proper sample inventory records.

  • Ensure compliance with laboratory sample retention policies.

  • Support laboratory inventory and consumable management.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate closely with the Cytogenetics Department.

  • Provide timely updates on prenatal sample status.

  • Ensure smooth workflow between laboratory teams.

  • Support efficient turnaround times for diagnostic testing.

Quality & Compliance

  • Follow laboratory SOPs and quality guidelines.

  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and traceability of laboratory activities.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.


Qualifications

Education

  • Master of Science (M.Sc.) in:

    • Genetics

    • Biotechnology

    • Molecular Biology

    • Life Sciences

    • Biochemistry

    • Microbiology

    • Related Biological Sciences


Experience

  • Freshers to 2 years of experience.

  • Prior laboratory internship or academic project experience in molecular biology or genomics is preferred.
