Role Overview

The Junior Dialysis Technician will support the delivery of safe and efficient hemodialysis treatment to patients with kidney failure. The role involves preparing dialysis machines, assisting patients during treatment sessions, monitoring equipment performance, and maintaining accurate clinical documentation.

This entry-level position is ideal for certified dialysis professionals seeking hands-on clinical exposure in a hospital or dialysis center environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines as per prescribed treatment plans and clinical protocols.

  • Attach dialyzers and blood tubing to machines and prime extracorporeal circuits with 0.9% normal saline before initiating treatment.

  • Label dialyzers and bloodlines with patient name and identification prior to first use (excluding single-use items).

  • Prepare dialysis solutions and mix bicarbonate concentrates according to established formulas and physician instructions.

  • Explain dialysis procedures and machine operation to patients to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation.

  • Connect patients to vascular access sites (AV fistula, graft, or catheter) to initiate dialysis sessions.

  • Monitor dialysis machines for alarms, pressure changes, and potential malfunctions during treatment.

  • Maintain and update logbooks, treatment records, forms, and registers accurately.

  • Follow infection control standards, safety guidelines, and biomedical waste management protocols.

  • Support senior technicians and nursing staff in maintaining smooth dialysis unit operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certification in Dialysis Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), or related paramedical field.

  • 0–2 years of relevant experience in dialysis centers, nephrology units, or hospitals.

  • Basic knowledge of hemodialysis equipment and patient monitoring techniques.

  • Understanding of infection control practices and clinical documentation standards.

  • Good communication skills and patient-focused approach.

  • Ability to work in rotational shifts, if required.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with Fresenius or similar dialysis systems.

  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to SOPs.

  • Ability to respond effectively to machine alarms and patient needs.
