Role Overview

The Manager – Development In Vitro Metabolism is a laboratory leadership position responsible for managing scientific and operational activities within the Development In Vitro Metabolism team. The role combines people management, laboratory operations, client interaction, project oversight, and scientific expertise in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK).

The position requires active laboratory involvement, with approximately 30–50% hands-on scientific workload, while also overseeing team performance, quality, compliance, and strategic development.


Key Responsibilities

Laboratory & Operational Management

  • Lead laboratory and support teams conducting in vitro metabolism studies.

  • Ensure studies are completed within established timelines.

  • Maintain compliance with:

    • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

    • Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs)

    • Regulatory agency requirements

  • Support efficient laboratory operations and workflow management.

  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and execution of project activities.

Team Leadership & Staff Development

  • Supervise scientific and technical personnel.

  • Assist with:

    • Performance evaluations

    • Salary reviews

    • Staffing decisions

    • Employee development plans

  • Mentor and develop chemists and technical staff.

  • Contribute to staff training and technical competency development.

  • Support implementation of departmental and organizational goals.

Scientific Oversight

  • Ensure collection of high-quality scientific data.

  • Provide technical leadership for metabolism-related studies.

  • Apply scientific expertise to solve complex experimental challenges.

  • Interpret and implement technical and operational policies.

  • Drive continuous improvement within laboratory processes.

Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration

  • Collaborate with North American and global teams to ensure consistency of scientific processes.

  • Represent the operational group on cross-functional committees.

  • Support alignment of departmental objectives across regions.

Client & Business Engagement

  • Maintain existing client relationships.

  • Establish new scientific and business contacts.

  • Serve as a scientific resource during client interactions.

  • Support business growth through technical expertise and service excellence.

Strategic & Financial Support

  • Work with department leadership regarding:

    • Budget planning

    • Resource allocation

    • Departmental objectives

  • Contribute to long-term technical and operational strategies.


Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree.

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in:

    • Inhibition Assays

    • Induction Assays

    • Protein Binding Assays

    • Transporter Assays

    • LC-MS/MS

    • Metabolic Stability Studies

  • 4+ years of leadership experience as:

    • Lead Scientist

    • Supervisor

    • Manager


Preferred Qualifications

Education

  • Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree.

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in:

    • Inhibition Assays

    • Induction Assays

    • Protein Binding Assays

    • Transporter Assays

    • LC-MS/MS
