Position Overview

Pediatric Associates is seeking an extern for a Medical Assistant Externship in El Paso, TX. This externship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a clinical pediatric setting. As an extern, you will be mentored by experienced staff and contribute to patient care by supporting clinical functions and learning key office procedures.

Primary Functions

Patient care management: Assist with patient care using electronic or paper environments.
Customer service: Provide exceptional service to patients and families, ensuring a professional and cordial atmosphere.
Treatment room preparation: Ensure examination rooms are ready for patient visits and maintain cleanliness.
Vital signs: Measure and record patient vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
Patient history: Verify and update patient medical histories, including immunization records and allergies.
Preparation for examination: Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
Paperwork: Complete necessary documentation for patients (e.g., school forms) and obtain hospital results (lab/x-ray).
Safety: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Teamwork: Collaborate with nursing and front office staff to ensure optimal patient care.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma required. Currently enrolled in a Medical Assistant program (Diploma in progress).
Skills:
- Basic medical terminology knowledge.
- Ability to perform pediatric vital signs.
- Understanding of medical safety practices.
- Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
