Position Overview

Pediatric Associates is seeking an extern for a Medical Assistant Externship in El Paso, TX. This externship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a clinical pediatric setting. As an extern, you will be mentored by experienced staff and contribute to patient care by supporting clinical functions and learning key office procedures.

Primary Functions

  • Patient care management: Assist with patient care using electronic or paper environments.
  • Customer service: Provide exceptional service to patients and families, ensuring a professional and cordial atmosphere.
  • Treatment room preparation: Ensure examination rooms are ready for patient visits and maintain cleanliness.
  • Vital signs: Measure and record patient vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
  • Patient history: Verify and update patient medical histories, including immunization records and allergies.
  • Preparation for examination: Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
  • Paperwork: Complete necessary documentation for patients (e.g., school forms) and obtain hospital results (lab/x-ray).
  • Safety: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate with nursing and front office staff to ensure optimal patient care.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma required. Currently enrolled in a Medical Assistant program (Diploma in progress).
  • Skills:
    • Basic medical terminology knowledge.
    • Ability to perform pediatric vital signs.
    • Understanding of medical safety practices.
    • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
