Job Title: Medical Coder – Inpatient DRG (IP DRG)

Role Overview:
We are seeking a Medical Coder – IP DRG with strong expertise in inpatient coding to review patient records, assign accurate DRGs, and ensure compliance with ICD-10-CM/PCS guidelines. This role requires attention to detail, analytical ability, and collaboration with clinical teams to maintain high-quality coding and contribute to process improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient records.

  • Assign and sequence DRGs (MS-DRG and APR-DRG) ensuring compliance with regulatory and reimbursement standards.

  • Review patient medical records for completeness and accuracy, collaborating with clinical staff as needed.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to optimize coding accuracy and operational efficiency.

  • Maintain adherence to deadlines and regulatory standards while working independently.

  • Document and report coding decisions clearly and effectively.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in IP DRG coding.

  • Active coding certification: CIC, CCS, or CPC.

  • Bachelor’s degree in any relevant field.

  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

  • Proficient in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding guidelines.

  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with EMR/EHR systems such as EPIC, Cerner, or similar.

  • Proficiency with coding software or encoders (e.g., 3M, Trucode, Optum).

  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel, for reporting and analysis.
