R1 RCM India is seeking experienced Medical Coders / Senior Medical Coders – Inpatient (IP) to support high-quality inpatient coding operations. This role requires strong expertise in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding with hands-on experience in DRG-based coding environments. The ideal candidate will ensure accurate, compliant coding while supporting revenue integrity and operational efficiency for healthcare providers.

Review inpatient medical records in compliance with PHI and HIPAA standards
Assign accurate ICD-10-CM (principal and secondary diagnoses) and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes
Ensure correct sequencing of codes based on complete clinical documentation
Accurately assign Present on Admission (POA) indicators
Apply in-depth knowledge of MS-DRG, APR-DRG, APGs, and medical necessity guidelines for claims processing
Adhere strictly to official coding guidelines, coding clinics, and payer regulations
Query physicians and clinical teams for clarification where documentation is incomplete or unclear
Monitor accounts placed on hold and follow up with relevant stakeholders as required
Maintain productivity and quality benchmarks while meeting daily turnaround time targets
Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders through professional written and verbal communication
1–7+ years of hands-on experience in Inpatient (IP) DRG medical coding
Any Graduate or Postgraduate from a recognized institution
Active and verified coding certification at the time of joining:
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS – AHIMA) or
Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC – AAPC)
Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
Ability to work independently and adapt to evolving business and process requirements
Experience with MS-DRG and APR-DRG methodologies
Familiarity with coding and abstracting tools such as 3M, Optum, CAC, Meditech, or similar systems
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
Professional email and stakeholder communication skills
