Job Summary

The Metabolism Dose Formulations Chemist is responsible for the preparation, formulation, and handling of test article dose formulations used in metabolism studies. This role supports scientific teams by developing and preparing formulation vehicles, ensuring data quality, maintaining laboratory compliance, and contributing to efficient laboratory operations within a regulated research environment.


Key Responsibilities

Dose Formulation & Laboratory Operations

  • Prepare vehicles and dose formulations for metabolism studies on a daily basis.

  • Conduct non-standard test article preparations according to study requirements.

  • Research formulation requirements and recommend suitable preparation methods.

  • Recommend modifications and improvements to formulation procedures when appropriate.

  • Adapt laboratory techniques and methodologies to meet specific study requirements.

Scientific & Technical Support

  • Collaborate with scientific staff and clients to understand formulation needs.

  • Provide technical guidance and oversight within the Dose Formulation Laboratory.

  • Assist in troubleshooting formulation-related challenges.

  • Support implementation of new mixing techniques, procedures, and laboratory equipment.

  • Review formulation data and prepared materials for accuracy and quality.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure formulation activities comply with laboratory procedures and study requirements.

  • Identify deviations from expected results and escalate issues appropriately.

  • Detect potential problems related to:

    • Study protocols

    • SOPs

    • Dose preparations

    • Laboratory schedules

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on data quality and operational efficiency.

Laboratory Safety

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.

  • Safely handle known and unknown hazardous chemicals.

  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and regulatory requirements.

  • Promote safe working practices throughout laboratory operations.

Client & Project Support

  • Participate in client visits and study initiation activities.

  • Support project teams by providing formulation expertise.

  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding formulation activities.

Team Collaboration

  • Work effectively within cross-functional laboratory teams.

  • Contribute to a collaborative and productive work environment.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA) in:

    • Chemistry

    • Biology

    • Life Sciences

    • Related Scientific Discipline

  • 1+ year of laboratory experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of:

    • Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)

    • FDA regulations

    • EPA regulations

    • Other applicable regulatory guidelines

  • Experience with formulation preparation or laboratory research activities.
