Pharmacist - The Jewish Hospital

Job Summary:

Mercy Health is seeking a Pharmacist for The Jewish Hospital to perform medication management activities ensuring safe, rational, and cost-effective therapy while complying with all federal, state, and accrediting agency standards. The pharmacist will follow established departmental policies and procedures and work to maintain departmental objectives. This is a full-time position (40 weekly hours) with a weekend rotation (5-8 hour shifts) from 14:30-22:30.

Essential Functions:

  • Process medication orders, reviewing for appropriateness, safety, and efficacy.
  • Prepare compounded and non-compounded products safely and in accordance with regulations.
  • Oversee pharmacy distributive functions ensuring timely medication availability.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff as required.
  • Maintain responsibility for the security of pharmacy inventory.
  • Identify, document, and resolve potential or actual adverse medication events.
  • Educate patients to improve understanding and adherence to their medication therapies.
  • Collaborate effectively with healthcare providers, patients, caregivers, and pharmacy team members.
  • Participate in medication safety, quality assurance, drug utilization reviews, and other departmental activities.

Education and Licensure Requirements:

  • Graduate from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS or PharmD (required).
  • Advanced pharmacy degree (preferred).
  • Current pharmacist license in the state of practice (required).
  • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred).
  • Immunization Certification (preferred).

Experience:

  • 2 years of recent experience in an acute care setting (required).
  • 1 year of leadership experience (preferred).
  • Experience in the field of pharmacy practice (required).

Skills & Abilities:

  • Monitor patient conditions and administer non-intravenous medications.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, patients, and families.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of medications, including adverse effects, interactions, dosing, and monitoring.
  • Experience with pharmacy operating systems and automation (EPIC preferred).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to mentor and coach staff effectively.

Training:

  • Proficiency in using EPIC Electronic Health Record (preferred).
  • Knowledge of MS Office, spreadsheets, and drug databases (required).
