Job Overview

AstraZeneca is hiring a Regional Medical Advisor (R&I) to strengthen its Medical Affairs presence in Mumbai. This is a field-based scientific role responsible for executing the Medical Affairs strategy for pre-launch and/or newly launched products within the Respiratory & Immunology (R&I) therapeutic area.

The Regional Medical Advisor plays a pivotal role in advancing scientific exchange, building strategic partnerships, and shaping clinical practice through high-quality, non-promotional medical engagement. The position directly contributes to improved patient outcomes and supports the safe, effective, and evidence-based use of AstraZeneca medicines across the healthcare ecosystem.


Key Responsibilities

Medical Strategy & Scientific Leadership

  • Execute regional Medical Affairs plans aligned with global and local R&I medical strategies

  • Maintain deep scientific and clinical expertise in disease management, AstraZeneca products, emerging therapies, and the competitive landscape

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the Field Medical Strategic Plan (FMSP)

  • Act as a scientific subject matter expert for internal teams and external stakeholders

  • Support training, capability building, and mentoring initiatives within the therapeutic area


Scientific Exchange & External Engagement

  • Conduct peer-to-peer scientific discussions with Healthcare Professionals (HCPs), Key External Experts (KEEs), and scientific thought leaders

  • Deliver balanced, evidence-based responses to unsolicited medical inquiries

  • Provide high-quality scientific presentations to internal and external audiences

  • Organize and facilitate advisory boards, scientific exchanges, symposia, MSL events, and non-promotional educational programs

  • Collaborate with KEEs on evidence generation initiatives, including Investigator-Sponsored Research (ISR), local studies, and publications


Insights Generation & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Gather, analyze, and communicate actionable insights from the external scientific and medical environment

  • Identify gaps in patient pathways and healthcare delivery to inform medical and product strategies

  • Build strong, peer-level relationships with traditional and non-traditional stakeholders, including policymakers, patient advocacy groups, government bodies, and innovation partners

  • Support identification of investigators for pre-clinical, clinical, and post-marketing studies

  • Participate in reviews of investigator-sponsored studies and other data generation activities


Compliance, Governance & Innovation

  • Ensure full compliance with AstraZeneca Global Field Medical Standards, internal SOPs, and local regulatory requirements

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of pharmacovigilance, GxP, GCP, and adverse event reporting

  • Uphold ethical interaction standards and support training on compliance and governance policies

  • Leverage digital tools and innovative technologies to enhance scientific exchange and patient-centric solutions


Required Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in a scientific discipline (Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, or related field) – required

  • Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) – preferred


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3–6 years of experience in Medical Affairs, Medical Advisor, MSL, or related roles within the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry

  • Prior experience in Respiratory, Immunology, or a closely related therapeutic area is strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in scientific engagement with KEEs and healthcare decision-makers

  • Solid understanding of regulatory, compliance, and pharmacovigilance frameworks
