R&D Hub Leader, Head of Workflow & Application Development

Overview:
Merck is seeking a visionary R&D Hub Leader to head its Workflow & Application Development at the Jigani site. The ideal candidate will lead application labs with a focus on analytical chemistry, driving scientific innovation, enhancing research capabilities, and translating novel concepts into market-ready products. This is a strategic leadership role interfacing with global stakeholders across Life Science R&D.


Key Responsibilities:

R&D Hub Leadership:

  • Design and execute business models for Chemistry growth in the APAC region

  • Champion site-level initiatives to expand research and talent capabilities

  • Solve site-specific challenges and encourage knowledge sharing and alignment with global R&D

  • Act as a liaison between Jigani and global R&D, promoting best practices and cross-functional engagement

Workflow & Application Development (Analytical Chemistry Focus):

  • Develop analytical methods to simulate customer workflows

  • Validate new product prototypes and support product launches with data-driven application development

  • Train field application teams with insights from lab research to improve customer engagement

Chemical Synthesis R&D:

  • Lead efforts in end-to-end synthesis innovation including catalysis and modeling

  • Transform innovative concepts into scalable products

  • Collaborate with partners and customers to deliver tailored synthesis solutions

Strategic Planning & Budgeting:

  • Manage OPEX and CAPEX budgets for R&D activities

  • Define and report KPIs to the Head of R&D Chemistry

  • Execute strategies that foster product innovation and revenue growth

Customer-Centric Innovation:

  • Embed “Voice of the Customer” into R&D pipelines

  • Analyze post-launch product data to guide future improvements

  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to align with real-world demands and trends


Who You Are:

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD (preferred) or advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline

  • Strong background in analytical chemistry and chemical synthesis

  • Proven experience managing cross-functional teams in a matrix structure

  • Budget management and strategic execution expertise

  • Excellent communication and leadership presence

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automated systems and computational modeling

  • Track record of mentoring, talent development, and innovation

  • Strong problem-solving skills with an entrepreneurial mindset


Estimated Salary: ₹55–75 LPA (Based on leadership scope and industry benchmarks)
