Job Overview

Abbott is hiring a Senior Manager – Regional Medical Affairs (RMA) to lead field-based medical strategy, scientific engagement, and cross-functional collaboration. This leadership role is central to driving medical excellence, stakeholder engagement, and medico-marketing strategies across therapeutic areas.

You will manage a team of RMAs, ensuring strong scientific communication, compliance, and alignment with regulatory and pharmacovigilance standards, while supporting product lifecycle and market positioning.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Functional Management

  • Lead recruitment, hiring, and development of Regional Medical Advisors (RMAs)

  • Build and manage a high-performing medical affairs team

  • Conduct training programs to ensure scientific excellence and therapeutic expertise

  • Drive performance management, goal setting, and career development

Medical Strategy & Scientific Excellence

  • Ensure high-quality scientific and medical knowledge across RMAs

  • Develop and implement medical strategies aligned with business objectives

  • Support brand strategies with strong clinical and scientific insights

  • Participate in scientific meetings and stay updated on therapeutic advancements

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Medical Affairs, Marketing, and Sales teams

  • Align medico-marketing strategies with business goals

  • Support advisory boards, medical events, and educational initiatives

  • Provide insights on Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and therapeutic landscapes

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines, SOPs, and compliance frameworks

  • Maintain alignment with pharmacovigilance (PV) requirements (ADR/AE reporting)

  • Ensure consistency in field-based medical practices

Stakeholder Engagement & KOL Management

  • Build and maintain relationships with healthcare professionals and KOLs

  • Gather and communicate medical insights to internal teams

  • Drive engagement strategies for both in-line and pipeline products

Operational Excellence

  • Manage field resources and prioritize projects across teams

  • Identify and resolve operational challenges in therapeutic areas

  • Drive innovation in medical communication and service delivery


Required Skills & Qualifications

Educational Qualification

  • MBBS / MD / PharmD / PhD / M.Pharm or equivalent life sciences degree

Experience

  • 8–12+ years in Medical Affairs / Field Medical / Pharma Industry

  • Prior experience in team leadership and stakeholder management

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of Medical Affairs, KOL engagement, and medico-marketing

  • Knowledge of pharmacovigilance (PV), ADR/AE reporting

  • Familiarity with ICH-GCP, regulatory compliance, and SOP frameworks

  • Expertise in therapeutic area strategy and clinical data interpretation
