Role Summary
The Senior Officer – Global Intellectual Property is responsible for supporting patent strategy, patent analytics, in-licensing evaluations, patentability assessments, portfolio management, and intellectual property due diligence activities across pharmaceutical, biosimilar, peptide, and finished dosage form products.
This role plays a critical part in safeguarding Apotex’s intellectual property interests by conducting patent and literature searches, evaluating patent risks and opportunities, supporting patent filings, and providing strategic IP insights to R&D, business development, regulatory, and legal teams.

Patent Search & Prior Art Analysis
Conduct comprehensive prior art searches to assess:

Utilize global patent and scientific databases to identify relevant prior art references.
Analyze patent documents, publications, and technical literature.
Prepare detailed prior art assessment reports to support:
Patent Invalidation Strategies
Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) Assessments
Litigation Support Activities
Provide scientific and technical interpretations of patent findings.
Patentability Assessment & Portfolio Management
Conduct patentability assessments for inventions generated by R&D teams.
Evaluate intellectual property opportunities across:
Formulations
Biosimilars
Peptides
Pharmaceutical Processes
Drug Delivery Technologies
Support development and maintenance of the company’s patent portfolio.
Monitor patent prosecution activities and filing timelines.
Maintain patent records, renewal schedules, and portfolio databases.
Patent Landscape & Competitive Intelligence
Prepare:
Patent Landscape Reports (PLRs)
Competitive Intelligence Reports
Technology Landscape Assessments
Analyze patent activities of competitors and innovators.
Identify opportunities and risks associated with emerging technologies and molecules.
Provide ongoing updates to patent landscape reports for existing and pipeline products.
Support strategic decision-making through IP intelligence and market insights.
In-Licensing Due Diligence & Risk Assessment
Conduct patent due diligence for:
Third-Party Finished Dosage Forms
Biosimilar Products
Peptide Molecules
Licensing Opportunities
Evaluate patent risks in countries and regions of commercial interest.

Freedom-to-Operate Position

Prepare risk assessment summaries and due diligence reports.
Support business development and licensing decisions.
Patent Filing & Prosecution Support
Coordinate filing of patent applications for internal R&D innovations.
Ensure timely preparation and submission of patent-related documentation.
Liaise with:

Support patent prosecution activities and response preparation.
Track filing deadlines and prosecution milestones.
Technical IP Support to R&D
Provide patent clearance and IP support for:

Collaborate closely with R&D scientists to identify and mitigate intellectual property risks.
Support product development teams with strategic IP recommendations.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate patent records and documentation.
Ensure proper archival and tracking of intellectual property files.
Support compliance with patent filing requirements and deadlines.
Maintain confidentiality and data security related to proprietary information.
Ensure all activities comply with company policies and IP best practices.

Required Qualifications
Education
One of the following qualifications:
Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm.)
Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Biotechnology
Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Life Sciences

Post Graduate Diploma in Patent Law
Registered Patent Agent (Indian Patent Office) – Highly Preferred
