Role Overview

The Senior Scientist – Synthetic Chemistry will be responsible for independently executing synthetic chemistry reactions, purification, and characterization of chemical compounds to support discovery projects. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, adherence to safety protocols, and efficient delivery of high-quality results in a CRO environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform synthetic chemistry reactions, including workup, purification (column chromatography, crystallization, preparative TLC), and compound isolation.

  • Ensure timely delivery of final compounds according to project timelines and productivity targets (# of compounds/month, # of steps/month).

  • Conduct analytical characterization and interpret data to ensure quality of synthesized compounds.

  • Record experimental observations in Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) following SOPs and project guidelines.

  • Coordinate sample analysis, document results, and communicate progress to supervisors or group leaders.

  • Maintain awareness of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), emergency response procedures, and proper chemical waste segregation as per EHS standards.

  • Participate in mandatory training programs related to laboratory safety, data integrity, and quality compliance.

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to organizational policies in all laboratory operations.

Experience Required

  • 2–5 years of experience in synthetic chemistry, preferably in a CRO or discovery services environment.

  • Proven track record in organic synthesis, compound purification, and analytical data interpretation.

Educational Qualification

  • M.Sc in Organic Chemistry or General Chemistry.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of organic synthesis principles and reaction mechanisms.

  • Expertise in purification techniques and analytical characterization of compounds.

  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and instrumentation relevant to synthetic chemistry.

  • Ability to independently solve complex synthetic problems.
