Senior Programmer Analyst

About the Role

Thermo Fisher Scientific is hiring a Senior Programmer Analyst to perform advanced bioinformatics and statistical programming activities that support clinical research and computational studies.

This role involves independently leading moderately complex studies or contributing as a study team member on larger projects under the guidance of a lead programmer. The position also includes mentoring junior team members and supporting departmental initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

1. Study Leadership & Project Coordination

  • Serve as the lead programmer on selected moderately complex studies.

  • Work directly with:

    • Project team leaders

    • Client representatives

    • Cross-functional clinical trial teams

  • Help define:

    • Project goals

    • Deliverables

    • Timelines

  • Communicate actively with multidisciplinary teams throughout project execution.


2. Statistical & Bioinformatics Programming

  • Independently create, execute, maintain, and validate programs that:

    • Transfer data across multiple systems

    • Integrate databases from different sources

    • Generate and store summary datasets

    • Produce reports and analytical outputs

  • Develop and validate:

    • Listings

    • Tables

    • Figures (LTFs)

  • Use SAS and related programming tools for statistical analysis and reporting.


3. Data Management & Quality Assurance

  • Manage assignments while ensuring:

    • Timely delivery

    • High-quality outputs

    • Compliance with contractual obligations

  • Perform quality control review for statistical programming deliverables.

  • Work with complex relational database structures and large data systems.


4. Training & Mentorship

  • Provide training and guidance to junior team members.

  • Mentor programmers and support skill development within the team.

  • Assist in preparing:

    • Training materials

    • Departmental documentation

    • SOPs and best practice guidelines


5. Departmental & Business Support

  • Support departmental infrastructure initiatives.

  • Represent the company at:

    • Industry conferences

    • Internal presentations

    • Department meetings

  • Contribute to:

    • Working practice documents

    • SOP development

    • Internal knowledge-sharing activities

  • Assist with proposal and bidding processes when required.


Educational Qualifications

Required Education

Option 1

  • Master’s degree (MS/MA) in:

    • Computer Science

    • Statistics

    • Biostatistics

    • Mathematics

    • Related field

  • Plus minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Option 2

  • Bachelor’s degree in:

    • Computer Science

    • Statistics

    • Biostatistics

    • Mathematics

    • Related field

  • Plus minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Equivalent academic or vocational qualifications may also be considered.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of one or more programming languages.

  • Advanced knowledge of:

    • SAS programming

    • Relational database structures

  • Ability to generate and validate statistical programming outputs.
