Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and compliance-driven Medical Coder to support invoice reviews and provide expert coding guidance to billing and revenue cycle teams. This role plays a vital part in ensuring accurate code assignment, regulatory compliance, and optimized reimbursement outcomes across inpatient, outpatient, and denial workflows.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong expertise in ICD-10 and CPT coding, Medicare regulations, and healthcare documentation standards, while maintaining the highest levels of data confidentiality and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform coding audits and documentation reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance, including work completed by co-source partners.

  • Assign and sequence ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes for inpatient, outpatient, same-day surgery, and denial-related services as required.

  • Collaborate with billing teams and system work queues (WQs) to support accurate claim processing and timely reimbursement.

  • Ensure adherence to Medicare policies, National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits, and regulatory coding guidelines.

  • Independently manage assigned work queues while meeting productivity and quality benchmarks.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and protect Protected Health Information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA and information security policies.

  • Demonstrate professional conduct and ethical standards in all interactions.

  • Perform additional coding and compliance-related duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Certification (Mandatory):

    • CPC (AAPC) or CCS (AHIMA) certification.

  • Education:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).

  • Experience Level:

    • Mid-Level | Minimum 2+ years of hands-on medical coding experience, preferably in one or more of the following areas:

      • Inpatient DRG (IP)

      • Outpatient (OP)

      • Denials Management

      • Same-Day Surgery (SDS)

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding standards.

    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    • Ability to efficiently use coding, billing, and EHR-related software systems.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Surgical coding experience is an added advantage.
