Application Support Manager – Pharma / Small Molecule (SM)

Education: M.Pharm / M.Tech / M.Sc / Ph.D (Pharmaceutical Sciences, Analytical Chemistry, Life Sciences)


Role Summary

The Application Support Manager – Pharma/SM will lead the delivery of scientific and technical application support for SCIEX LC-MS/MS platforms across pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, CRO, and analytical testing laboratories.

The role is responsible for customer engagement, workflow optimization, technical troubleshooting, scientific consulting, training delivery, team leadership, and strategic support to commercial growth initiatives. The incumbent will act as a trusted scientific advisor and subject matter expert in mass spectrometry technologies.


Key Responsibilities

1. Scientific Application Support

  • Deliver pre-sales and post-sales scientific application support for SCIEX analytical platforms.

  • Provide expertise on:

    • Triple Quadrupole (QQQ) Systems

    • QTRAP Technologies

    • High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS)

    • LC-MS/MS workflows

  • Support customers in method development, optimization, validation, and troubleshooting.

  • Guide customers in analytical, bioanalytical, and impurity profiling applications.


2. Customer Scientific Partnership

  • Build strong relationships with pharmaceutical companies, CROs, academic institutes, and regulatory laboratories.

  • Act as a trusted advisor on mass spectrometry applications and workflows.

  • Support customers throughout instrument lifecycle management.

  • Gather scientific feedback and translate customer needs into business opportunities.


3. Training & Scientific Education

  • Design and conduct:

    • Product demonstrations

    • User trainings

    • Scientific workshops

    • Technical seminars

    • Webinars and virtual learning sessions

  • Develop customer competency programs to improve instrument utilization and adoption.

  • Mentor users on advanced LC-MS/MS techniques and best practices.


4. Technical Troubleshooting & Method Optimization

  • Resolve complex technical challenges related to:

    • Sample preparation

    • Chromatographic separation

    • Instrument performance

    • Data acquisition

    • Data interpretation

  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions.

  • Ensure high customer satisfaction and instrument uptime.


5. Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and develop a high-performing application support team.

  • Define goals, KPIs, and development plans for team members.

  • Conduct coaching, mentoring, and performance reviews.

  • Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.


6. Scientific Documentation & Knowledge Management

  • Develop and maintain:

    • Application Notes

    • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

    • Technical Guides

    • Training Materials

    • Knowledge Base Content

  • Ensure scientific accuracy and regulatory compliance of all technical documentation.


7. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with:

    • Sales Teams

    • Marketing Teams

    • Service Engineers

    • Product Management

    • Global Application Scientists

  • Support product launches and strategic growth initiatives.

  • Provide technical input for customer proposals and business development opportunities.


8. Market Intelligence & Strategic Support

  • Monitor emerging trends in:

    • Pharmaceutical Analysis

    • Bioanalysis

    • Biomarker Research

    • Omics Technologies

    • Regulatory Requirements

  • Capture market insights and customer feedback.

  • Influence product enhancement and business strategy through field intelligence.

  • Customer satisfaction scores

Required Qualifications

Education

  • M.Pharm / M.Sc / M.Tech (Mandatory)

  • Ph.D preferred


Experience

  • 15–20 years of experience in:

    • LC-MS/MS

    • Analytical Research

    • Bioanalytical Research

    • Pharmaceutical R&D

    • CRO Environment

    • Scientific Application Support

  • Previous leadership experience managing scientific teams.

  • Experience working with regulated GxP environments preferred.
