Associate STEM Content Analyst – Chemistry (Derwent)

Role Overview

The Associate STEM Content Analyst (Chemistry) will work on patent-derived chemical information for the Derwent database. The role focuses on extracting, analyzing, and structuring chemical and invention-related data from patents, applying chemistry knowledge and editorial standards to support high-quality scientific indexing.

  • Focused on patent analysis and chemical intelligence

  • Works with structured scientific and patent data

  • Strong emphasis on chemistry expertise and analytical thinking


Key Responsibilities

Patent Data Extraction & Analysis

  • Extract novel chemical information from patent documents

  • Identify and interpret chemical structures, reactions, and compounds

  • Apply chemistry knowledge to understand invention novelty

Coding & Indexing

  • Assign DWPI (Derwent World Patents Index) codes as per editorial guidelines

  • Ensure accurate classification of chemical inventions

  • Maintain consistency with indexing conventions and standards

Quality & Productivity

  • Meet defined production volume and quality targets

  • Ensure accuracy in data curation and indexing outputs

  • Follow established editorial policies strictly

Scientific Evaluation

  • Interpret:

    • Chemical nomenclature

    • Reactions and mechanisms

    • Formulas (organic & inorganic chemistry)

    • Catalysts, additives, and functional roles

Continuous Improvement

  • Adapt to evolving processes and workflows

  • Identify personal training and development needs

  • Maintain flexibility in a dynamic content environment


Eligibility Criteria

Education (Mandatory)

  • M.Sc in Chemistry or related specialization:

    • General Chemistry

    • Organic Chemistry

    • Pharmaceutical Chemistry


Experience Requirements

  • Freshers preferred

  • 0–2 years of experience in:

    • Chemistry-related domain

    • Patent or scientific content work (preferred)


Required Skills

  • Strong foundation in chemistry concepts:

    • Chemical nomenclature

    • Reactions and mechanisms

    • Organic and inorganic chemistry

  • Understanding of catalysts, additives, and their functions

  • Analytical and logical thinking ability

  • Basic familiarity with chemical drawing tools such as:

    • ISIS Draw

  • Interest in patent science and innovation analysis


Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of patent novelty and invention analysis

  • Interest in intellectual property and scientific classification systems


Work Schedule

  • Full-time role

  • Monday to Friday

  • 9 hours per day (including 1-hour break)
