Role Summary

This role focuses on scientific content curation and patent indexing in the field of biotechnology and molecular biology. The Associate STEM Content Analyst works on the GENESEQ™ database, manually extracting, analyzing, and indexing biological sequence information from patent documents.


About the Product / Team

  • Part of Clarivate’s Intellectual Property (IP) division

  • Works on GENESEQ™ Indexing, a proprietary database for biological sequences in patents

  • Team of ~40+ professionals with backgrounds in biotechnology, genetics, bioinformatics, and molecular biology

  • Focus on structured scientific data extraction for patent intelligence


Key Responsibilities

Patent & Sequence Curation

  • Analyze patent documents to extract biological sequence data

  • Index nucleotide and amino acid sequences from:

    • Patent text

    • PDF and TIFF images

  • Identify and curate sequences not explicitly listed but described in patents

  • Create records for:

    • Mutated sequences

    • Partial or fragment sequences (SEQ IDs)

  • Ensure compliance with editorial and indexing standards


Scientific Analysis

  • Apply knowledge of:

    • Biotechnology

    • Genetics

    • Molecular biology

  • Interpret sequence-related claims in patents

  • Use biological databases like:

    • NCBI Taxonomy

    • PubMed

  • Perform secondary research to validate scientific information


Quality & Productivity

  • Meet weekly production and quality targets

  • Ensure consistency and accuracy in indexing work

  • Follow structured editorial guidelines and conventions


Documentation & Tools

  • Work with MS Office tools

  • Handle PDF/TIFF-based scientific documents

  • Maintain structured records in internal indexing systems


Safety & Compliance

  • Follow workplace safety and compliance standards

  • Ensure accuracy and ethical handling of scientific data


Educational Qualification

  • Master’s degree in:

    • Biotechnology

    • Bioinformatics

    • Microbiology

    • Genetics

    • Molecular Biology

    • Biochemistry


Experience Required

  • Fresher OR

  • 0–1 year experience (preferred exposure in patent indexing or related areas)

  • 1–2 years experience preferred in:

    • Patent indexing

    • Gene sequencing

    • Disease indexing

    • Abstract writing


Skills Required

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Molecular biology

    • Genetics

    • Biotechnology concepts

  • Familiarity with biological sequence data (DNA/RNA/protein)

  • Ability to interpret patent documents

Tools & Research Skills

  • MS Office proficiency

  • Experience with:

    • PubMed

    • NCBI databases

  • Ability to work with PDF/TIFF scientific documents

  • Secondary research capability
