Clinical Development Medical Director – Cardiovascular & Metabolic | Novartis | East Hanover, NJ

Job Summary

Novartis is hiring a Clinical Development Medical Director (CDMD) for its Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolic therapeutic area. Based on-site in East Hanover, New Jersey, this leadership role drives scientific and clinical strategy, oversight of complex global clinical trials, and cross-functional alignment on program deliverables. The CDMD is a strategic medical expert supporting trial design, execution, regulatory submission, and publication strategy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead medical strategy and clinical input across trial designs, protocols, safety reviews, and regulatory documentation.

  • Act as a medical monitor and provide scientific oversight in collaboration with global trial teams.

  • Contribute to data interpretation, trial reporting, and briefing documentation for regulatory engagement.

  • Collaborate with Translational Medicine and Business Development on early-phase transitions and due diligence.

  • Support benefit-risk assessment, safety reporting, and interactions with external stakeholders including regulatory authorities, KOLs, and patient advocacy groups.

  • Mentor clinical team members and contribute to medical training and scientific engagement.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • MD or equivalent medical degree; cardiology training strongly preferred

  • Board certification and 4+ years of clinical practice experience (including residency) desirable

  • Minimum 5 years of clinical research or pharma drug development experience

  • Demonstrated success leading clinical trials from planning through submission

  • Strong knowledge of GCP, trial design, and regulatory frameworks

  • Global/matrixed team experience, ideally with people management responsibilities
