Role Overview

ICON is hiring a Clinical Data Science Lead – External Data to support and lead advanced data science initiatives within clinical trials. This role plays a critical part in transforming complex external clinical data into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making and clinical development outcomes.

The position requires strong leadership, advanced analytical expertise, and close collaboration with cross-functional clinical teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and execution of data science strategies for external clinical trial data.

  • Collaborate with Clinical Operations, Biostatistics, Data Management, and other stakeholders to define data and analytics requirements.

  • Oversee the development of statistical models, analytical frameworks, and data interpretation methodologies.

  • Guide and mentor data scientists and analysts on best practices in clinical data analysis and visualization.

  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear insights and recommendations through presentations and reports.

  • Ensure data science activities align with clinical research standards, regulatory requirements, and quality frameworks.


Education & Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Statistics, Data Science, Biostatistics, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.


Experience Required

  • 7+ years of experience in clinical data science, biostatistics, or advanced analytics within clinical research, CRO, or pharmaceutical environments.

  • Proven experience leading data science or analytics projects involving external or real-world clinical data.

  • Hands-on expertise with statistical software, data analytics platforms, and visualization tools.

  • Prior experience in project leadership or people management is strongly preferred.
