Clinical Sourcing Manager - Medical Affairs

Role Summary

The Clinical Sourcing Manager leads contract negotiation and management for clinical CROs, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient external service delivery to support Novartis' drug development pipeline.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Vendor Management:

    • Primary contact for negotiating scope of work, assumptions, pricing, and payment schedules.
    • Ensure agreements are advantageous to Novartis, minimizing risks in collaboration with legal, finance, and QA.
    • Manage ESP selection based on category strategy, cost-efficiency, and compliance.
  2. Contracting & Procurement:

    • Prepare and release RFI, RFP, and RFQs for clinical service providers.
    • Drive annual cost-saving initiatives and monitor contract compliance.
    • Facilitate corrective actions from vendor audits.
  3. Project & Stakeholder Management:

    • Plan and manage projects, considering resources, budgets, and constraints.
    • Build sustainable relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive innovation and efficiency.
  4. Regulatory & Financial Compliance:

    • Ensure clinical activities comply with SOX and company procedures.
    • Provide robust financial insights into clinical trial budgets and contracts.

Key Requirements

  • Education:

    • Master’s in science, business, or related field preferred (MBA is an advantage).
    • Lifesciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Pharmaceutical Sciences background required.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum 9 years in Clinical Development, Pharma R&D, Procurement, or CRO outsourcing.
    • Strong understanding of CRO marketplace, clinical trial processes, and comparator markets.
  • Skills:

    • Contracting, budgeting, and procurement expertise.
    • Excellent negotiation, influencing, and communication skills.
    • Project management and stakeholder collaboration capabilities.

  • Financial acumen for contract cost optimization.
