Job Overview

Abbott, a global healthcare leader with operations in over 160 countries, is seeking an experienced Director, Medical Affairs to provide strategic medical leadership for its Heart Failure portfolio. This remote role offers a unique opportunity to influence clinical strategy, evidence generation, and scientific engagement for innovative cardiovascular technologies that improve patient outcomes worldwide.

The Director, Medical Affairs will play a critical role in guiding clinical research, supporting product safety and performance, and representing Abbott in interactions with key external stakeholders. This position requires strong scientific expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally across medical, regulatory, and commercial teams.


Key Responsibilities

Medical Strategy & Leadership

  • Provide strategic medical leadership for the Heart Failure portfolio, ensuring alignment with global business and clinical objectives.

  • Drive evidence generation strategies to support product safety, performance, and lifecycle management.

Clinical Research & Scientific Affairs

  • Lead and oversee clinical research initiatives, including investigator-initiated studies and research grant programs.

  • Support publication planning, abstracts, manuscripts, and scientific presentations of clinical data.

  • Contribute to clinical development strategies for new and existing technologies.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a key medical representative to healthcare professionals, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), professional societies, and advisory boards.

  • Represent Abbott at national and international medical congresses and scientific forums.

  • Deliver internal and external medical education related to heart failure therapies and technologies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Research, Quality, and Commercial teams to support product development, regulatory submissions, and compliant promotional activities.

  • Provide expert medical input for risk management, product safety, and post-market surveillance activities.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure adherence to medical affairs governance, ethical standards, and internal policies.

  • Support risk evaluation and product safety processes for innovative cardiovascular technologies.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Advanced degree such as MD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent strongly preferred.

  • Minimum 12 years of professional experience, including at least 5 years in the medical device, pharmaceutical, or healthcare industry.

  • Demonstrated expertise in cardiovascular medicine or heart failure is highly desirable.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage complex medical programs.

  • Strong scientific, strategic, and business acumen.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
