1. Job Overview

This is a line management leadership role responsible for overseeing clinical research teams within an FSP (Functional Service Provider) model.

The role focuses on:

  • Managing clinical research staff performance

  • Ensuring delivery of customer commitments

  • Driving operational excellence and compliance

  • Supporting business growth and talent retention


2. Core Responsibilities

A. Customer Delivery & Operational Success

  • Ensure teams meet KPIs and deliverables

  • Monitor quality of outputs and compliance

  • Develop mitigation plans for performance gaps

  • Manage escalations with customers

  • Collaborate with FSP leadership on delivery strategy


B. Business Impact & Resource Management

  • Support revenue generation by:

    • Hiring and retaining talent

    • Ensuring optimal team utilization

  • Participate in:

    • Account meetings

    • Management reviews

    • Town halls

  • Align workforce delivery with business demand


C. People Leadership (Core Function)

  • Directly manage clinical research staff

  • Conduct:

    • Performance reviews

    • Goal setting

    • Mid-year & annual evaluations

    • Performance improvement plans (PIPs)

  • Support employee development and training

  • Promote engagement, retention, and team morale

  • Ensure adherence to HR and training requirements

  • Encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)


3. Stakeholder Management

  • Act as liaison between:

    • Internal teams

    • Customers

    • Project/FSP leadership

  • Communicate performance updates and risks

  • Influence and resolve operational issues


4. Financial & Operational Oversight

  • Basic understanding of:

    • Budgeting

    • Forecasting

  • Review workload distribution and utilization

  • Support operational planning efficiency


5. Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in:

    • Life sciences OR

    • Nursing OR

    • Equivalent clinical research experience


Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years clinical research experience

  • Prior leadership or line management experience required or preferred

  • Background in:

    • CROs

    • Pharma

    • Biotech


Skills
