Role Overview

We are seeking experienced Medical Coders and Senior Medical Coders with hands-on expertise in Inpatient DRG (MS-DRG/APR-DRG) coding. The role involves reviewing patient medical records, ensuring compliance with PHI and HIPAA standards, and assigning accurate ICD-10-CM and PCS codes. Candidates will work independently, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and adhere to organizational policies and coding standards.

This role is ideal for professionals with 1–7+ years of experience in Inpatient DRG medical coding.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review inpatient medical records and assign ICD-10-CM (PDx and SDx) and PCS codes accurately for diagnoses and procedures.

  • Assign and sequence codes based on medical documentation, ensuring correct POA (Present on Admission) indicators.

  • Apply knowledge of medical necessity, DRGs, APGs, and APRs for accurate claims processing.

  • Follow coding guidelines, coding clinics, and query physicians as needed for clarification.

  • Monitor account status, follow up on holds, and communicate updates to relevant leaders.

  • Utilize coding tools and software such as 3M, Optum, CAC systems, abstracting software, Meditech (advantageous).

  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring timely completion of tasks.

  • Adapt to evolving processes and requirements in a fast-paced healthcare environment.


Eligibility & Experience Requirements

  • Education: Any Graduate or Postgraduate degree.

  • Experience: 1–7+ years of Inpatient DRG (IP) medical coding experience.

  • Certifications: Must have an active CCS (AHIMA) or CIC (AAPC) certification verified at joining.

  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including professional email correspondence with clients and stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing business or process requirements.
