Role Overview
We are seeking experienced Medical Coders and Senior Medical Coders with hands-on expertise in Inpatient DRG (MS-DRG/APR-DRG) coding. The role involves reviewing patient medical records, ensuring compliance with PHI and HIPAA standards, and assigning accurate ICD-10-CM and PCS codes. Candidates will work independently, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and adhere to organizational policies and coding standards.
This role is ideal for professionals with 1–7+ years of experience in Inpatient DRG medical coding.
Key Responsibilities
Review inpatient medical records and assign ICD-10-CM (PDx and SDx) and PCS codes accurately for diagnoses and procedures.
Assign and sequence codes based on medical documentation, ensuring correct POA (Present on Admission) indicators.
Apply knowledge of medical necessity, DRGs, APGs, and APRs for accurate claims processing.
Follow coding guidelines, coding clinics, and query physicians as needed for clarification.
Monitor account status, follow up on holds, and communicate updates to relevant leaders.
Utilize coding tools and software such as 3M, Optum, CAC systems, abstracting software, Meditech (advantageous).
Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
Adapt to evolving processes and requirements in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Eligibility & Experience Requirements
Education: Any Graduate or Postgraduate degree.
Experience: 1–7+ years of Inpatient DRG (IP) medical coding experience.
Certifications: Must have an active CCS (AHIMA) or CIC (AAPC) certification verified at joining.
Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including professional email correspondence with clients and stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and adapt to changing business or process requirements.
