Job Overview

The Reliability Network Engineer III will play a critical role in designing, supporting, securing, and maintaining Thermo Fisher Scientific’s global network infrastructure. This position focuses on firewall, wireless, and enterprise network reliability, supporting manufacturing and research environments across worldwide locations.

The role requires deep expertise in network engineering operations, ITIL-based processes, automation, monitoring, and vendor coordination, while contributing to continuous improvement, performance optimization, and network resilience.


Key Responsibilities

Network Operations & Reliability

  • Support global Network Operations Center (NOC) to ensure timely resolution of network outages impacting business and customers

  • Monitor network health through metrics collection, visualization, alerting, and performance analysis

  • Track network utilization trends to support capacity planning and scalability

  • Manage network incidents, changes, and requests using ITIL-based processes

  • Own and maintain network monitoring configurations, SOPs, and incident workflows

Engineering & Optimization

  • Support and enhance global network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, load balancers, and SD-WAN

  • Conduct root cause analysis, problem investigations, and trend analysis for recurring issues

  • Proactively manage network vulnerabilities, patching, and software upgrades

  • Identify opportunities for network optimization, automation, and continuous improvement

  • Develop and validate diagnostic and troubleshooting scripts

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Collaborate with network SMEs, architects, vendors, and service providers for issue resolution and optimization initiatives

  • Coordinate end-to-end vendor engagements and escalations

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to peer teams

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of network systems, maintenance activities, and enhancements

  • Guide stakeholders on global network engagement models and ITIL processes

Tools, Metrics & Automation

  • Manage ServiceNow work queues and ensure SLA compliance

  • Drive quality and accuracy in network performance metrics and reporting

  • Lead automation initiatives using scripting or APIs in collaboration with engineering teams

  • Participate in technical trainings provided by internal SMEs and external vendors


Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

  • 6–8 years of hands-on experience in network engineering and enterprise network operations

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with Cisco, Arista, Fortinet, and F5 networking and security solutions

  • Expertise in LAN, WAN, Wireless, Routing, Switching, and Network Security

  • Solid understanding of networking and security standards, best practices, and methodologies

  • Experience with SD-WAN management and troubleshooting (Silver Peak preferred)

  • Working knowledge of cloud networking in AWS and/or Microsoft Azure environments

  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, Jira, and IT service management workflows

  • Automation or scripting skills using Python, APIs, or service orchestration tools are highly desirable
