Position Overview

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Developer (DB Developer) to join its Data Science, Digital, and IT team. This role is responsible for the design, development, integration, optimization, and maintenance of complex database systems and data pipelines supporting healthcare and analytical platforms. The position plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality, secure, and compliant data delivery across enterprise systems.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant professional experience in database development, systems analysis, or data engineering

  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and hands-on experience will be considered

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline

  • Relevant academic or vocational certifications are an advantage

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform system analysis, development, testing, deployment, and support of complex information systems

  • Manage weekly EHR data updates for existing physician panels

  • Integrate new panel members from multiple EMR systems

  • Lead ETL processes, data integrations, and database operations based on collaborator requirements

  • Maintain and enhance existing EMR integrations while developing new data connections

  • Improve automated quality assurance processes to ensure data accuracy and warehouse integrity

  • Normalize EMR data into enterprise data warehouses and analytical databases

  • Maintain mapping tables for physicians, drugs, dosage forms, strengths, and related datasets

  • Transform patient activity data into standardized, analytics-ready formats

  • Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies with nightly recoverable backups

  • Develop and maintain detailed database documentation

  • Design and implement scalable data architecture using AWS analytical services

  • Ensure database security, governance, and compliance with HIPAA and GDPR standards

  • Manage operational reporting including weekly and monthly data distributions

  • Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders

Required Technical Skills

  • Expert-level SQL development and performance optimization

  • Strong experience with SQL Server technologies including SSIS and SSRS

  • Hands-on experience in AWS-based Cloud BI and analytical services

  • Proficiency in Python and PySpark

  • Strong understanding of data modeling, schema design, and scalable data processing frameworks

  • Experience with SQL Server to AWS migration

  • Expertise in relational database platforms including Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL

  • Performance tuning, query optimization, and database troubleshooting

  • Experience with Jira, GitHub, and Agile development methodologies

  • Experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL

  • Scripting and automation using Python or Shell

  • Familiarity with Apache, IIS, Windows, and Linux/Unix server environments

  • Experience with validated systems in regulated environments

  • Exposure to Tableau, Power BI, Databricks, or Snowflake

  • Knowledge of machine learning, NLP, or large language models

  • Experience in healthcare, EMR systems, clinical trial data, or life sciences domains
