Role Overview
The Senior Research Investigator / Principal Investigator will play a critical role in supporting drug discovery and development projects within the Drug Discovery Services (DDS) division. The role involves conducting scientific experiments, leading research activities, supervising team members, and ensuring project execution aligns with scientific, operational, and safety standards.
The position requires strong expertise in chemistry, computational drug discovery techniques, and interdisciplinary research collaboration to drive scientific innovation and deliver high-quality research outcomes for global clients.
Key Responsibilities
Scientific Research and Experimentation
Conduct chemical reactions and research experiments in accordance with Syngene safety protocols and laboratory standards.
Document experimental observations and results in laboratory notebooks or electronic systems following ALCOA+ data integrity principles.
Apply strong understanding of organic chemistry and computational chemistry techniques in research activities.
Project Planning and Execution
Plan and execute research projects independently or as part of a multidisciplinary scientific team.
Ensure project milestones and deliverables are completed within agreed timelines.
Provide regular project updates and reports to internal stakeholders and external clients.
Team Leadership and Supervision
Supervise associates and junior scientists to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior researchers to enhance their scientific and technical capabilities.
Support cross-functional collaboration with medicinal chemistry, biology, and DMPK teams.
Problem Solving and Scientific Troubleshooting
Identify and resolve scientific challenges during experimental procedures.
Troubleshoot technical issues related to experiments, instrumentation, and analytical techniques.
Laboratory and Equipment Management
Ensure proper usage, maintenance, and cleanliness of laboratory instruments and equipment.
Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to maintenance teams promptly.
Ensure proper handling of chemicals and adherence to safety protocols.
Safety and Compliance
Follow all environmental health and safety (EHS) guidelines and laboratory safety standards.
Ensure awareness and compliance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for chemicals used in experiments.
Maintain proper waste segregation and laboratory safety procedures in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Documentation and Confidentiality
Maintain accurate and up-to-date scientific documentation and research records.
Ensure confidentiality of client-related scientific data and research outcomes.
Educational Qualifications
PhD in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Computational Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
Postdoctoral research experience with relevant industrial exposure is preferred.
Experience Requirements
5–10 years of experience in pharmaceutical research, drug discovery, or computational chemistry.
Experience working in interdisciplinary research teams involving medicinal chemistry, biology, and pharmacokinetics.
Technical Skills
Computational Chemistry and Drug Design
Proficiency in structure-based and ligand-based computational approaches.
Strong understanding of molecular mechanics and quantum mechanics.
Experience with computational methods including docking, pharmacophore modeling, molecular dynamics simulations, and QM calculations.
Scientific and Analytical Skills
Strong knowledge of organic chemistry and analytical characterization techniques.
Familiarity with literature search tools such as SciFinder and Reaxys.
Strong understanding of statistical methods for scientific analysis.
Programming and Technical Tools
Proficiency in Python programming and/or Unix shell scripting.
Experience using scientific software such as ChemDraw and data analysis tools.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools for scientific documentation and reporting.
