A global leader in life sciences and scientific innovation is seeking a Staff Engineer – Software to provide advanced technical leadership within its Laboratory Equipment division. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and architectural direction for software and firmware subsystems within a laboratory equipment product line

  • Lead design, development, testing, and delivery of software solutions for new product development (NPD), sustenance, and NPD support projects

  • Ensure software and firmware deliverables meet electrical, system, and product requirements with high technical quality and on-time execution

  • Work hands-on across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements definition to deployment and support

  • Mentor and technically guide software, firmware, and electronics engineering resources to achieve project and quality objectives

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand system-level firmware, software, and electromechanical dependencies

  • Address system-level field issues, production challenges, and quality-related concerns through robust technical solutions

  • Design and develop embedded and application software using C, C++, Qt, and QML

  • Develop and maintain Linux-based systems, including kernel-mode device drivers

  • Contribute to bootloader and OS build environments using U-Boot, Buildroot, or Yocto

  • Prepare and review technical documentation including design specifications, test plans, test results, and change requests

  • Perform design verification testing and conduct rigorous code reviews to ensure quality, performance, and compliance

  • Drive modular, reusable driver and software architecture and leverage AI-enabled tools to improve development efficiency

  • Actively promote innovation, best practices, and continuous improvement within the engineering organization

  • Communicate technical concepts clearly through presentations, design reviews, and regular project status updates


Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline from a recognized institution

  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 14+ years of overall experience in software and firmware engineering for embedded or instrumentation-based systems

  • Demonstrated ownership of at least three production software releases

  • Proven experience mentoring and technically leading small teams of software and firmware engineers


Required Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in C and C++ with hands-on experience in system-level software design and architecture

  • Extensive experience with Qt and QML for user interface design and development

  • Proficiency in Linux application development and kernel-mode device driver development

  • Experience with U-Boot, Buildroot, and/or Yocto build systems

  • Solid understanding of system-level firmware, software, and electromechanical integration

  • Experience with board bring-up and OS porting (preferred)

  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and design patterns

  • Hands-on experience with communication buses and protocols such as CAN, SPI, and I2C

  • Experience in firmware development for bare-metal microcontrollers using C and C++

  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and phase-gate NPD processes

  • Experience with design verification testing and code quality compliance tools
