Role Overview

The Associate Scientific Editor – Medical Science is an editorial role designed for PhD or MD-qualified scientists with a strong interest in medical research. This position offers the opportunity to manage the publication of manuscripts, collaborate with authors, reviewers, and editorial teams, and contribute to the development of a growing open-access journal.

The role is based in Chennai, with potential travel to scientific conferences to engage with researchers and the broader scientific community.


Key Responsibilities

Manuscript & Publication Management

  • Manage the end-to-end publication process for assigned manuscripts in the journal.

  • Coordinate with authors, reviewers, and editors to ensure timely and high-quality publication.

  • Evaluate and support manuscripts across a broad range of medical and life science disciplines, including public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, infectious diseases, cancer research, pharmacology, toxicology, cardiology, and genetics.

  • Assist in manuscript preparation, peer-review processes, and editorial decision-making.

  • Ensure adherence to scientific and ethical standards in publishing, including clinical trial registration and study design compliance.

Process Improvement & Collaboration

  • Support Heliyon and Elsevier initiatives to improve editorial workflows, publication quality, and author engagement.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams at Cell Press and Elsevier to enhance journal processes and content.

  • Participate in innovative projects shaping the future of scientific communication.

Editorial & Operational Excellence

  • Maintain meticulous records of all editorial activities and ensure compliance with journal policies.

  • Prioritize tasks effectively, monitor publication timelines, and address process improvements proactively.

  • Engage with stakeholders to provide feedback and support for continuous editorial excellence.


Requirements

Educational Qualifications:

  • PhD in Medical Science, Life Sciences, or a related field.

  • MD is also considered.

Experience & Skills:

  • Strong research background in medical or life sciences, ideally with publications in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Knowledge of public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, clinical research, or specialized medical areas.

  • Understanding of medical ethics, study design, trial registration, and scientific rigor.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, creativity, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Passion for supporting researchers in disseminating accurate scientific knowledge.
